is this tank overstocked?

Your crayfish will catch your minnows one day.
we'll see
lol , the crays are pretty fast ,and will catch anything if they get hungry , once i woke up and saw my cray eating my angel :( , till now i donno how he catch that poor thing !

i think Jag1980 is right , 10g is too small for anything , i use my 10g as QT , get a bigger tank ..
clown plecos will grow to 3.5" and need ATLEAST a 30g tank ...

Yup, not a matter of if but when the cray will get one of your fish. It will be at night when the fish are resting and vulnerable. I have no idea what you're saying, that the pleco is on a shelf so the cray can't get to it, I just cannot imagine that being possible - I had a crayfish that could get ANYWHERE, he would literally climb all the way up tall skinny plants, or all the way up the filter intake or heater, trying to get out. I was amazed by his climbing abilities, since I also thought at first that he'd stay on or close to the bottom. But it turned out, he enjoyed hanging from various aquarium decor that you'd never think he could get up on.

Also, what kind of cray? As with the pleco, any cray I can think of besides maybe a dwarf cray needs at least 20-30G tank.

wow, dudes chill. a 10g is more than enough room for plenty of fish. what species of minnows do you have?

I have a zebra danio that isn't "zebra" anymore. He is speckled. This is because of a P Alleni crayfish who didn't quite get hold of him as well as he should have with his claw. I thought he would never catch them because they are so fast. Fortunately the little danio didn't get hurt bad enough to die or be disfigured except for his patterning, but after that I moved the cray!

Plecos are very messy fish. It's not necessarily the size of the fish, but the waste they make.

The cray will naturally go after the minnows. If he doesn't catch them, he will probably injure them.

Good luck.

If you don't want honest opinions, why do you even bother starting a thread? =/

Crayfish are very good movers believe it or not, and they are known to climb out of tanks unless you have a secure hood. They also learn to hunt when the fish are resting, which happens to be when you are sleeping and aren't observing them. Even if they are well fed, their natural instinct is to snatch up small fish.

Your pleco will need a bigger tank pretty soon. If you are investing in a 10 gallon tank, you might as well go 20 gallon since you can pretty much use all the equipment in the 20 gallon. I would try to buy a used 20 gallon in the classifieds and pawn off your 10 gallon to someone else, or better yet use it for your crayfish.

Good luck. d('a';;)

i have kept many crays in the past and know from experiance, that when they want to catch a fish they will. I have a 1 1/2 inch marble cray almost kill my 3 inch blood parrot. the fish was much bigger but they cray is way stronger. Luckily i caught it in time and the cray only made a mess of the fishs tail.

now i am not saying you won't have luck keeping your cray and fish together as i have had some crays co-exist fine but there is a very good chance one day you will be missing a fish.

as far as stock it isn't bad now but will be a bit small when the pleco is full grown adn possibly the cray depending on species
