exaclly my point. In the warmer months my tank doesnt need a heater at all, infact it needs to be cooled but in the winter mine needs the heater at night to normalize the temp. So not having a heater untill now (cooler months) isn't neccasarily bad or neglectfull as long as the water temp is correct.
