I've joined the dark side. Soon to be manager of the Petland Lancaster fish dep.

Seems like you have pretty free reigns to do whatever you want - thats amazing considering you just come in off the streets. I wonder how long it will be before they decide youre ideas are too elaborate (compared to the apparent norm) and they let you go ... I hope not - will be cool to see a complete transformation, but I am skeptical.

Well i found out today from one of the other managers, that she is surprised they haven't fired me from all the stuff I'm doing. This came about because today i was cleaning the filters on the feeder fish tanks and i made the comment that these must not have been cleaned in at least 6 months. And she said yea they haven't because they can't pay anybody to do it. Anytime anyone went to do something on the fish side other than to get fish, they got mad because they weren't out selling puppies. Which is whats making the money right now.

But then again she said i must be doing something right because they haven;t made an objection to any of my changes. And less fish have died since i've been there. I've still had some die off's but i'm attributing that to the poor tank conditions and shipping prior to my arrival. It will take a bit to get things stabilized.

Here is my first display tank. It's a 10 Gallon planted, w/ a big drift wood piece in the center. Has 6 White Clouds, 6 white tip tetra's, 6 panda cory's and 6 zebra shrimp. This is one of my tanks from home I brought in. Stocking seems high i know, but I've never had any water quality issues at all.

Nice I like your tank there..... Well I hope you don't get fired it looks like you are doing a good job. and they don't have to train you that is a bonus. BTW what kind of light do you have over that tank

This is by far one of the most interesting (and unique) threads that I've ever seen on this forum. Thanks 00Smurf for taking the time to include us all in your endeavor.

I think most of us have dreamed at some point of doing exactly what you are right now. I know I have! Congrats and keep up the excellent work and incredible progress.

Too bad your LFS is across the country from me. I'd feel confident doing business with your store.

Thank you i'm glad i have the support of my fellow forum members. I have been giving customers this website as recommendation for an online resource. And the accumulated knowledge on here has been very helpful with some learning about other aspects of fish husbandry that I do not know.

Thanks for everyones help and thanks for following along on the ride. lol

Here are some pics of some of the GBR's i got in from friday. Can anyone tell the sex. They have been having some interesting behavior in the tank they are in.

Pic 6: Hounduran red points? if they are they look real nice!

Many happy congrats on the new job! I love your ID cards, by far the best looking and most informative I have seen. We don't have any Petlands in my area, only Petco and Petsmart (evil empires that they are), and a few locally owned stores. I am bereft, as my fave lfs store is closing at the end of June. They will be re-opening in a new location, but due to some legalities, that likely won't be til year's end :( I just began reading this thread, and am eager to see all that transpires!

Wow, your store carries gorgeous blue rams! I think the ones in the pics are females because of their red bellies and less pointy dorsal fins. Maybe the interesting behaviour is them in breeding mode. Or the males kissing/fighting for the females, lol. I have a question about the bioballs. Can we just drop them in the tank or do they have to go in the filter?
