I've joined the dark side. Soon to be manager of the Petland Lancaster fish dep.

I'm working on my first fish order right now. about a 2/3rds have to be the typical sellers (feeders, guppys, mollys, swords etc) I plan on getting some rare/exotic to give for the last 2/3rds.

So 2/3+2/3=1? :hitting: Do you have a central filter for every tank, or a bunch of filters in each tank?

lol i meant 2/3 and 1/3. lol . every 6 tanks has its own sump slash pump. In each column, the individual tank is divided in to 2. So technically there is 12 tanks for each pump. The feeders will be moving to there own wall. And i will be adding a tank of guppy feeders.

On this wall i'd like 6 salt tanks. with the bottom 3 being a sump/refugium for the 2 above it. Each tank is 75g, and beind each tank i have 1 and 1/2" clearance before the back wall.

Smurf, if you need help on species profiles (particularly loaches), I'm willing to help you.:grinyes: All I want is the loaches not being used by lots of people to clean up algae, snails, etc.:lipssealedsmilie: :headbang2:

and i was so going to get some yo yo loaches for my snail problem :(

All I meant is that people not used them for the sake of just removing the snails. If you like the loaches, go ahead.:) Should have clarified my post.:)

WOW!! You've got your work cut out for you, that's for certain. Little by little, slow & steady wins the race. :grinyes: How much staff (F/T - P/T) have you got? Are the hiring decisions yours alone? Might be passin thru Lancaster, will try to stop in. "T"

right now the fish staff consists of me. When i'm not there one of the other depts get the fish. I try to be there almost everyday. When might you be passing through? I'll be aloud to hire on another person once sales pick up a little bit. But i've got to get a nice looking area before that will happen.

Sounds like you are making progress!

Smurf, I know you aren't getting paid much, but it sounds like a great job and more fun than anything. Yep, hard work is waiting for you, but enjoy it. These kinds of opportunities don't come often.

Heck, maybe you could have a day like I was talking about earlier where the customers could watch and help you set stuff up. You get some free labor and they get knowledge and buy stuff.

thank you. :). It is a fun job. Lol i like the idea of free labor w/ educational opportunity's. I will probably do that when i start building the reeftank display.

The filter media was a great suggestion. I've floated bio-balls in all of the tanks. That way once they are seeded i can sell some of those to help jump a cycle.

Also someone left the fill tube running on one of the sumps when they opened. I came in to find 27 dead fish. As all of the good water had drained out and was replaced with un chlorinated tap water. grr.

Yea i am holding off on the salt stuff for right now till i get the fresh straightened out. My next big thing is to change out all of the substrate for sand. and agronite for the chiclids.

I have a cool idea for an open reef display down the road. I'll be using this with lights mounted from the celling. I'll have a center mounted overflow, with a 20 gallon sump. I'll have coral piled up around the center overflow.
I'm curious - where do you order the fish from? Do they give you a list of sellers and what they carry? I've always wondered about that.

As for the cycled media, why not make it free with a purchase of a full set up? You know if someone buys the tank, cabinet, lights etc., say something like free with purchase of $150 or more or something along those lines.
