If you look closely you can see 'bout 1500 eggs or so.

They are now wrigglers and will be free swimming probably tomorrow (9-12).

Beautiful fish!

How old are your jacks? Any more pics?? That is definitely an impressive dempsey, for sure!

The eggs are all over the outside of the pot...she is fanning them in the pic.

Here are some more pics...

Female in her pre-breeding color. She is almost 3 and is 7.5-8" SL. She was 6" SL at a year old and is still growing very slowly. She has filled out nicely and is close to 2" thick.

Male in pre-breeding color. He is around 1 and is 4.5-5" SL. I rescued him from the lfs I work at half dead. I didn't expect them to breed, it was more of a pity thing.

Female guarding 3 day old wrigglers. (I didn't want to desturb them so I didn't scrape the algae off around them, sorry).

Close up of wrigglers.

Male with 3 day free swimming fry. They have at least doubled in size in 4 days free swimming. Thank god for frozen baby brine shrimp.

This shot is crappy. It just shows the massive amount of fry I have, probably close to 2,000.

(Anyone want a bag full? They are mostly going to be oscar food, I'll try to keep the 50 or so biggest to grow out a bit. 2,000 is a bit more than I need.)

HOLY *SHOCKS*

I've never seen so many fry swimming around like that before...hopefully my blue acaras will have a decent sized batch one day...

so do you keep your filter wrapped with anything, or do you just leave it running as normal...do you change it at all?

how many would you expect to lose also?

awesome fish, I don't have room to keep large fish so I have decided that I don't want large fish but yours just about makes me want to change my mind:D

I'm running a aquaclear 500 and a Fluval 404 which both have prefilter sponges on them and they are both turned down low. Even if fry get sucked up they are usually OK in the filter until I clean it and get 'em out. I expect to lose a couple hundred fry or so. I'm only feeding them three times daily, five would be better. 30% water changes every 4 days or so as well...it gets messy.
