Java moss is ruining my tank!

Hi guys, I have a 10 gallon tank with a swordplant, java fern, rocks, driftwood, and JAVA MOSS!
I've had this moss for 5-6 months now, and it has only barely attached to the driftwood (i tried tying it on when i just introduced it... still didn't cover my driftwood, the way i intended it to)... and now the java moss is EVERYWHERE!!
It's not the problem that they grow fast, coz they are modestly growing in mine, it seems. The thing is, there's this huge clump sitting where I want it to be, and then theres all these kabillion mini pieces EVERYWHERE. So my tank is HIDEOUS now! Java moss bits all over the gravel, growing in between the swordplant, sucking the nutrients out of the dying java fern, lodged between my rocks... not only does it clog my gravel vacuum when I do water changes, it completely clogs my filter!! My filter has now slowed to a drip, and the head is completely clogged w/ java moss.... ugh. And I washed of the moss the head only a couple days ago, just to have it clog up again.
I came up with a "solution" (aint so much of one coz it didnt work) to net out all the bits.. And that was a week ago. A couple days later, new bits are all over the place again, and I netted them out... and now they're all over the place again. I don't think this is going to work :(
Anyone has any experience dealing w/ java moss they'd like to share? Or if anyone has a betta idea? I'm completely stumped and tired :( TIA!

If you don't like it, take it out? You need to tie it down somehow or it will drift around the tank and get stuck in everything.

I know what you mean about the java moss. I have it all over in one of my tanks and it keeps getting all over the intake tube of the filter. Then the filter slows down or completely stops working all rogather. Good thing I have two filters on the tank because it had been happening alot lately. I think on my day off I am going to have to rip it all out of my tank which is going to be a real mess since it is everywhere. I don't see any other way to get rid of it.

I have JM in my tank I put mine around my rocks on the opposite side of the tank away from my filter I havent seen strands everywhere Or anything. I even have my airstone next to it. And it still does not blow it everywhere. Maybe try re-clumping it back together. and putting it back into your tank.

Yup, I put a clump on the opposite side of my tank where I attempt to arrange the rocks & driftwood to keep the JM from moving around. But my frogs n loach seem to be moving the moss around so it always ends up spilling out everywhere...

All th elittle bits will need to be taken out by hand. Sucks. As for keeping it down, you really will need to tie it well. One trick that works with plants like riccia is to use a hair net and attach it to a rock. That will hold it down at the base.

Of course java moss will always create some debris and is a great magnet for holding dirt in and needs to be cleaned

No idea what you guys are experiencing because I have never had that problem. Do you guys have fish that tear it up? I love my java moss carpets and my soon to be wall. I think that is the best way to keep it, tied down to something. Otherwise you will have the problem you are describing if the strands are too short. Here are some pics. Maybe they will give you some ideas. As you can see I used a mesh( a pulled apart shower poof) to hold the moss down. For the carpet I tied the moss down to slate and for the wall I'm trying to build I put it on needlepoint grid. I never have problems with stray moss, and everything looks nice and neat. Hope this helps.:)

Thanks everyone for the suggestions so far!
To Sammy7, I have a feeling that my 2 frogs may be ripping it up but I'm not sure. I'm sure the loach and the frogs are moving the moss around, though. Thanks for sharing your pics, you have a gorgeous tank & even more adorable betta =) I was trying to create the grassy tank as well, but I guess I didn't use a mesh like you and TKOS said. Question, what filter do you use? Because my hanging filter is clogged up w/ bits of java moss!
