well im a new user!:grinyes: but i have a question i recently bought a pair of jellybean convicts to breed and that very same night the female dropped eggs(she was ready to drop in the pet store) as i was watching i noticed that the male and female were both eating the eggs for no reason and the eggs were not sticking to the surface she was laying on? are these fish able to breed or no? ive breed all white ones before but these are colored or dyed(def not parrot fish).thanks!

They are fertile and are able to breed. You may need to know that these fish breed like convict cichlids do. First time spawners tend to eat the eggs. It's not unusual. You wait and they'll be breeding again and again. I find them more trouble than they were worth.:shakehead:

****. i went out and bought another pair the other day!:wall: and the 2got kicked out of there nesting area.:angryfire: well i plan on getting rid of my maroon clowns and ill move the 2 jelly beans into the tank they are in at the moment.thanks alot guys!:grinyes:and when they do have babies i will post em!

why are you buying dyed fish? not only does it support and continue the cruelty that these animals have to go through, but they will lose their color eventually and are much more prone to illness and reduced lifespans.

I agree, they SHOULD NOT be sold. the babies will not be colored and the adults will not stay colored.

they were the only thing close to a convict i could find. atleast a pair all the stores had all females i couldnt find one male regular convict so i bought the jellybean ones.

Sorry I don't know but I ask you a question: Why would you want to cross-breed and create a hybrid that could dilute the gene pool? Most hobbyists like having "pedigree" fish (if you will). Sort of like pedigree vs mutt. I am not trying to pick, I just don't understand why you would risk breeding without knowing the repercussions of your actions?

jellybean convicts are just pink/white convicts that have been dyed. they are genetically the same as regular black convicts, just a color variation. black cat, white cat, black dog, white dog. if you dye a poodle pink, it's still a poodle.

but i have to ask - are these actually convicts or parrot fish/convict hybrids?
