Ok, my jewel cichlids bred, and now I am unsure of whether to remove the fry, or leave them in there, everything i have read says to remove the fry, however, there is a difference in opinion as to when, and if I should remove all?..I am currently setting up a 20 long and a thirty on a joint stand, and am moving my convicts (pair)into the twenty long, and considering moving the fry into the thirty, I wasn't planning on them being a breeding pair, nor did i think i had a male and a female, the reading i have just done says to leave a few fry in otherwise, the pairs aggression towards each other could become fatal, so here in lies my questions:
1) would you put the fry in the twenty long, and the convicts in the thirty?
2) would you remove all fry, and parents, and return parents to the larger tank in a few days?(if so , would this cause to much aggression between parents)?
3)should i just let them go? (they are defending their territory quite well.)
4)would you remove most of the fry , and leave the rest?..
5)would you move the whole fam damily?(again, this posses the aggression problem?)

thanks for any replies that you may have!~ julz

seriously not one person knows anything here?...not one of you can answer a question as to whether there would be aggression:huh: ?..

you know, i still can not believe i haven't gotten one response, seriously?..I am glad my fish weren't dying!

Hope this helps a little, I recently found what appears to be baby electric yellows.I have only found 2 tho.My fish are only about 2 inches so iam sure there was'nt many to begin with.I don't have any other tanks to put the fry in so i try to keep them fed until there a safe size, The mama and dady are doing a great job of watching them..They are about a quarter inch now and doing fine,They hide under rocks or drift wood and do come out and swim around but not to far from there hiding spots...:dance2:

Every time our cichlads have bred we remove the fry approx 1 week after spotting them. This is because if we dont they will get eaten. Sometimes even by the parents. Havent had any probs with the parent's fighting after removing the lot.
Usually start with about 80 fry. End up with max 34.

hope it helps Kristina

Uhmm seriously they ARE CICHLIDS.AND CICHLIDS ALWAYS CARE FOR THEIR YOUNG.IT IS BEST FOR THEM TO TAKE CARE OF THE FRY THAN YOU HAND RAISING THEM.

IF YOU HAND RAISE THEM THE BABIES WILL SURE BECOME LIKE COMMECIAL ANGELFISHES AS LATER THEY DID NOT SEE THEIR PARENTS TOOK CARE OF THEIR BABIES SO END UP THE BABIES IF THEY GREW UP THEY WILL JUST LEAVE THEIR EGGS ALONE TO FEND THEMSELVES OR MORE WORSE EAT THE EGGS UP.

FOR ME I WOULD CHOOSE CHOICE NUMBER THREE.LEAVE THEM ALONE TO FEND THEIR TERRITORY TO RAISE THEIR YOUNG.

I've read to leave the parents with their babies until they are about 1/2in long. The parents protect the fry, bring them back into the 'bubble' when they get stuck or lost and the parents fan them to keep water moving. The fanning looks like the fish has Ick and their skin bothers them. But they are really just twitching all their fins to move water.

Leave the fry with the parents and their tankmates until you start to see the male showing mating behavior, (flashing and walling off the female from the rest of the fish) as they will both eat the fry before the female lays new eggs. There needs to be other fish around for the male to take out his aggression on -otherwise he may turn on the female, which usually doesn't end well. I have discovered (the hard way) that a long tank with lots of structure provides for breeding pair territory, and room enough for their tankmates.
