JK47's 225 Gallon Build Thread

this is really cool! that filter is really sweet man. loads of pot scrubbers for filtration!

good job for sealing the tank up using pvc caps and bulkheads.

what a great tank! and I LOVE that pleco.....tannins look nice IMO. ;)
Can't to see it progress......

I know right?!?! Me and my wife picked out the smaller one together a while back and I got the large one as a surprise when I bought my 135 gallon. Good thing to because the tank busted wide open about 3 weeks after I got it. ARG... At least something good came from that buy!

Thanks! I LOVE this filter too. I had to buy way more scrubbies than I needed just to get the colors right but it was worth it. I am trying to find pink ones for the african tank I will start building after this tank for my ladie. :hearts:

That will be my next build thread but a suprise for the wife, SHH!

I love that your "growout" tank is 135 gallons, HAHA! This looks really, really nice. I'm thinking of getting a 225 as well when I move into my next place in September. Excited to see the progress.

Piece of advice for you, if you do want to get a 225, dont get the 30" tall tank. It's REALLY hard to reach the bottom and arrange things, clean etc... I'm 5' - 11" tall and it's hard for me anyway. Go with the 8' 240 gallon or a 6' 180 gallon that are 24" tall. The extra height does nothing for this tank but add water volume and make mechanical harder.

Just my $0.02.

So I got the other two Eheim canisters worth of biomedia in the sump to help finish the nitrite phase. While I'm waiting, I want to run my stocklist past you guys, see what you think. I will be stocking over the course of a couple weeks. Here goes:

Phase one (already own will be the first in the tank)
x2 L240 pleco's
x1 Black Ghost Knife
x2 Green Severum
x1 Bristlenose Pleco

Phase Two: (LFS holding for me)
x2 Geophagus Surinamensis 8"
x3 Uaru Amphiacanthoides 4"

Phase Three:
x4 Geophagus Sp. Tapajo "Red Head" (my fav)

Phase Four: (HERE IS WHERE I AM STUCK)
x10 Rummynose Tetras
< or >
x2 Pictus Catfish

I am stuck because the wife LOVES the pictus but I have more than enough bottom feeders and the top of the water column will not have many fish, this is a tall tank. A school of rummynose would occupy that nicely. What do you guys think? What would you do or change? Add of take away? Would the rummynose make the tank look too "busy"?

I noticed one problem with your phase 4, so I fixed it for you: :naughty: No need to be stuck anymore.

x2 Pictus Catfish

CYCLE FINISHED!!!! Bought the other 100 lbs of sand today and just finished washing it. It looks awesome! I am going to catch all of my "other" fish in the 135 G. and take them in for store credit. Slight change in stocklist for now, LFS is holding on to a Geophagus Surinamensis & Jurupari & a single Uaru A. for my store credit. I am not sure about the Jurupari but I'll probably get that one too, they have nothing else I want.

I'll get pics up later tonight once the I get all of the fish moved and back from the LFS, should be a few hours for sure. Stay tuned....

One day I want to have a Geophagus tank as well...they are such cool fish! This video is my inspiration. :)
