You may just be surprised at what a few decades behind bars can do to a person.
i almost forgot this. i have an uncle that spent 15 yrs for murder, 1 1/2 yrs out and he's back in for attempting again. he's in his 60's for crying out loud. granted he may not be typical but you'd be surprised what a few decades will and won't do to certain people.

These people aren't protected by prison walls, the prisoners know what they are there for and usually inflict their own form of punishment upon them. I just feel as though if you really, really want to punish someone make them spend the rest of their life in prison, to me death is the "easy out".

That in itself is just wrong. Why should those who are already imprisoned for violent crimes be the ones who get to "inflict" their own punishment? If ANYONE has the right to do this, it should be the families of the victims. To many bleeding hearts in this country worried more about the rights of the aggressors.

I have to agree that 'death' is in fact the short route. Having to continue to live under such heavy restrictions as a prison is a more fitting punishment. However, saying they have 'rights' is pure foolishness. IMO - the criminal surrenders all rights and privileges the very instant they commit a crime. They disregard the rights of the victims to further their own agendas. If they wish to violate someone else's rights, they must then give up theirs as a payback.

However, I think enforcing a decision is far more of a deterrent when applied without delay. Many prisoners know a death sentence means at least 20 years or more in a single cell with all amenities afforded. Take that away from the sentence and you have 20 days and then bye-bye! That would really make them pay attention especially if it were to be publicly announced.
