Jpappy's planted 20 gallon long "build" thread

Maybe I overlooked this and missed a previous post but what kind of light are you running over this? Tank looks like its off to a good start.

Thanks gmh, LEDs are very exciting and I can't wait for them to become even more accessible and more customizable in the hobby. I'm kinda glad I did a redo when I did, allowed me to start researching them more for planted tanks rather than sticking with the current fluorescent fixtures.

The 20 long is running a Current Satellite LED+. Thanks for the kind words!

Ugh...not sure what the cycle is doing. Nitrite spiked over a week ago and then settled down around .25 ppm with help of a water change. Got that reading for a few days, had absolutely no sign of ammonia...did a water change Saturday and figured I'd give it sometime to see where it settles out and then dose ammonia again to see how quick it gets processed.

Well tonight I tested. 2 ppm NH3 and 5+ ppm NO2. :wall:

No idea where this is coming from. Haven't dosed any ammonia since the nitrite spiked initially, so well over a week ago. There's nothing but plants and snails, which could be contributing to ammonia (plant decomp, etc.) however I have no idea why it decided to spike now and how it got this high since I did a 50% wc only three days ago. Didn't touch anything other than picking up some mulm from the substrate, actually removed dieing plant matter, and moved the rock off the wood onto the substrate (nothing significant was kicked up as far as I could tell).

Trace amounts I could explain, but this is rather significant to pop up seemingly overnight.

Hope your tank settles down soon, it really looks beautiful:)
