Jungle Fizz Factory v. DIY

I have a power head with a venturi port is that what you mean? Wouldn't that just cause all the co2 to gas out? If you have instructions for a DIY difusser that would be cool. thanks.

There are more if you don't like any of these. But in-line / counter-low is the absolute best route for diffusion efficiency! not JMO but fact ;)

Hi
I also use the diy co2, but I use 2 setups. Every 2 weeks the older setup gets cleaned and restocked with fresh sugar and yeast. The first bottle lasts 2 weeks with great production then slows down for the next 2 weeks, BUT it still provides some co2. If you start a fresh batch every two weeks without overlapping you will have one day without co2. Also you already spent the money on the sugar/yeast why not get all that you can? I use the powerhead method but sounds like I may try the canister method. Just my 4 cents.

I am only about 5 days into the DIY thing and already my plants have made a dramatic improvment. The most significant observations are (1) drawf hair grass is actually starting to spread; (2) the new leaves on my money wort are 2-3x the size of the original leaves (and I'm not joking).

The difference in the tank before adding new lights and the CO2 is amazing. I have a amazon sword plant that has added five new leaves in the last couple of days. My banana plants are sprouting new leaves as well.

Will be mixing a new batch this week and will have to figure out a way to introduce that so that I don't have a drop in co2 production and the resultant ph increase. Ph is holding stable at 6.8.

I will post some pictures of the tank as it is now. IMHO it is pretty damned sweet. This is my first go 'round with planted tanks so i am stoked at the outcome; even my wife has been caught staring at the tank. Not as cool as some of the others I have seen on here, but for a first timer I couldn't be happier. Thanks all for your help.

for the mixture i would go with..

1/4 tsp. yeast
water up to the curve
2cups of sugar.

that way you dont have any over reactions from the yeast and it will last a few weeks!

Good luck

there are different recipes and they all work differently for different people. i usually used 1/2 teaspoon of yeast but i've upped it to 1 teaspoon. so i wouldnt argue with what you or anyone else use.

i would however suggest that you add a teaspoon of baking soda to the mix. the theory is that since the mixture gets acidic it'll kill the yeast causing the off gassing to slow down and it won't last as long. the baking soda will keep it from getting as acidic and prolong the life of the mixture and because it's not dying off the pressure stays more constant
