To my 55gal. I was holding my breath whether it would fit between my tank and the wall, and if it was quiet. Good news on both those questions. I am impressed with how quietly it runs.

It certainly seems to be pushing out a strong stream of water. My fish seem a little puzzled by the increase in current. I am running it with an AquaClear 70 and a 30. I presume the 30 might become unnecessary now, but I'm not just going to scrap it because the tank isn't that well established yet.

Well, like all things in this hobby, I hope it works out.

Having used AquaClears only in my day, I like the ability with the Magnum to direct the outflow pretty much any direction you want to.

Plus the ability for a directional spray bar to hit dead spots.

A question if I may--if you are using it 24/7, it's okay to use the Micron filter, yes? Or do people use the carbon media in that instance, and just use the Micron for spot polishing? I planned on running the Micron full time.

I suspect the micron filter will clog up to quick to use 24x7. I would use the general filter and switch to the micorm for spot cleaning.

The local Petco wanted $89 for one. I went Foster/Smith online for $42. Seems like a very reasonable amount.

Thanks for the responses. I guess I will let it do it's thing with the Micron for a day or two, and then switch to the carbon.

I love mine but I never use the micron cartridge. Probably because I don't need it. My water stays pretty clear most of the time. I filled the carbon chamber with biomedia. Cut-up filter sponges, ceramic rings, or cut-up pot scrubbers work well.

Awesome, I am happy to see this thread. (just look at my avatar!) I was thinking of purchasing one of these for a tank I'm going to be setting up soon in the 30 gal range.

How exactly does the output work on this? Is there a way to reduce the flow? I would like a relatively calm tank... If it is possible to connect it to a spray bar I suppose I could drill extra holes in it.

The filter media setup I was thinking of using was carbon in the media chamber but only replacing, say, 10% of it at a time so it doubles as biomedia so I can throughly clean the sponge on a regular basis to prevent nitrate buildup.
