Just Added a HOT Magnum

How exactly does the output work on this? Is there a way to reduce the flow?

I would be interested to know if anyone has any suggestions on how to reduce the flow a bit. From what I see Chico, it might be a bit much for a 30. But, maybe someone will come along with an idea or two for mellowing the outflow.

I am realizing now that I can pretty much design my own biomedia for the cannister. Well, I'll be thinking about that. Again, I'd love to hear inputs or suggestions.

Just by working with the outflow diffuser I have the current to acceptable levels for the fish it seems.

Woke up this morning to very crystal looking water. I realize I have been operating with a few misconceptions about these filters and using Micron filters or even water polishing pads. Not meant to be run full time. I get that now.

I think I will like this filter. And the ability to hit some stagnant areas with current is going to be worth it alone. Thanks, everyone for the input, and thanks Slappy for the biomedia ideas.

i have a new hot mag on a 10g dwarf puffer tanks and it has the bio outlet on it and i put another defuser on it so it lets out to the side and to the front and is difused and a nice current that dosen't bother the dwarfs just a nice swirl, you can get other attachments at most lfs, or they can order it in for you , mine carries these in stock most of the time. or if for turtles you can use 2 inlets instead if you want return at bottom.. or any way you can think of.. very versitle..

So the output is a standard size pipe? If so I could get some ABS or PVC painted black, fabricate a spray bar that runs along the length of the tank and drill a bajillion holes in it pointing in random directions. That should disperse the flow to the point it's even but mellow through the whole tank, allowing maximum filtration without any really fast flowing water. It's going to have a puffer or two living in it, and they're, ah, kind of clumsy swimmers.

well i have mine in with fw dwarf puffers, and they like a bit of current.. they can swin very well in the current,.... they are used to heavey current from the rivers they come from...

take the outlet with you to match it up..
