Just bought my first fish!

Also yall forgot to mention I needed to put some more aquarium salt in there. But its cool I realized it.

I don't believe in salting freshwater fish. Mollies are euryhaline, meaning they can adapt to a variety of salinity levels. They are perfectly fine in freshwater.

Video is too blurry for me to tell sex on the molly for sure, the two guppies look male. Glad they're doing well for you, keep checking the ammonia and nitrites daily, and doing water changes as needed.

Not sure if anyone has brought this up but with your tank being so close to the window you may end up with an algae issue.

Best of luck and as said before, be very careful about listening to advise you get from some salesperson at the pet store.

Okay now some more questions! What is a good testing kit to buy? Please give me a link. 2nd question, what do my ghost shrimp do? they seem to just stand in a line doing a ritual or something, it kinda creeps me out.

I like the API test kits. You need at minimum the ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate ones. Probably best to just get the API master test kit as it will have all of those and then some others.

I agree.. the API kits are best IMHO (see my previous post, I include a picture of it). Strips are not always entirely accurate in my experience, and harder to pinpoint your exact numbers.

Plus the API kits make you feel like a little junior chemist.. fun! :)

wow, ok, i am very lucky also, mikey101...

my fished lived :)

i spent some time researching before getting my Betta:

i actually made a filter:
http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=238898

because of this article:
http://www.firsttankguide.net/filters.php

i made a filter so that i wouldn't have to clean the tank as much, originally...

i also thought that it was all you needed...

until i saw the nitro spike on my test strips and did some deeper searching and finally seen a graph that "shows" the cycle in a glimpse:
http://fins.actwin.com/mirror/begin-cycling.html

i didn't realize how much jeopardy i was putting my Betta in by acclimating him into a new tank...

i figured that i did what was right, being informed as i was...

thankfully we didn't lose our fish...

this is a great place for you to find out things you cannot search on your own...

my only advise is to get a filter back up after your fish tank cycles :)

as a newb, i am not experienced enough to know about the nitro cycle, but if your filter fails, it can be disaster for your fish...

the filter i designed will definitely not hurt (thanks to the experienced input of the people of this forum)... and is cheap...

if you can afford it, ask about a good market filter on this forum... and take their advice...

congrats on your new fish and for finding this wonderful place on the net :)

Im sorry if this is a stupid question but in your video it didnt look like there was any water movement on the surface,is your filter on? Your filter needs to run 24-7-365. BTW your fish look good.
