OMG, it is rattling so loud I will never sleep at night; the tank is next to the bed. I have adjusted everything imaginable with no improvement. And it was rather complicated putting together with all the bags and sponge, and everything has to be changed at three different times. To top it off, the extension tube is ridiculously short, and now I need to find a longer one from somewhere. Nowhere near me has one, I know because I also tried to find one for my Aquatech filter several months ago. Any idea where I can find another extension tube I can attach to the new one? I've found some a few places online, but I'm confused because they look no different than the one I already have. I can't tell if I'm looking at just a replacement tube, or a tube that can attach to the one I already have. And the holes in this thing are so huge, my fry are likely to get sucked up inside it. :swear:

Just to add, it is an Aquaclear 20, for my 14g tank. Thanks!!

Yep, the extension tube is the same as the one you have, you just attach it on so you'll have two. And yeah, AquaClears have been unbelievably noisy for me. Let it run for a few days and see if it'll quiet down.

sorry for u... i just went out couple of months ago and bought 2 penguins.... they are sooo loud. i have like said in earlier post taken the tops off and that does help a bit but i am sooo dissapointed in these things.... luckily they are in my front room :)

I Use AquaClear And Swear By Them .... Take The Lids Off .... For Some Reason The Intake Tube Vibrates The Lid In My Eyes Thats The Only Thing Wrong With AquaClear ...

Front room!?

You have got to be from Chicago.

lol no im not from chicago. i was born in tn but raised in indy. live in ky now and everytime i say front room someone says something about it! lol i also each LUNCH around here they call it dinner lol im always wrong....

i have 5 aquaclears now and they are very quiet. better than most at noise level.
you have to keep the water level high with like most filters to keep the water noise down.

the beauty of the aq filter is its cheaper than buying the white or blue carbon inserts every 2 weeks.
throw the carbon in the trash its worthless .
just use foam and biorings. you wont have to buy biorings ever again and the foam is good for a year for me. i only wash out the foam and thats it. you can put polyfill in them to if wanted.
the short tube does stink! even the 110 has a short tube , thats the worst thing about them.
ive never had the tubes rattle or problems ever with them but mine are all about 1 year old.

if you wanna sell the ac20 finsnfur i may buy it lol

u know edh i just thought of something.... my dads side was from chicago... supposedly ran to indy from capone and changed our last name. so maybe thats where the FRONT ROOM came from lol

Front room!?

Just to jump in, I was born and raised in California, but we said "front room" all the time when I was growing up. My grandparents were from the Midwest, and I wonder if this isn't another inherited Midwesternism, like "warsh" for "wash."

Back on topic, my AC 20 can be quite noisy, too. Part of is is how the media settles in the basket, I think, since the noise fades after a day or so. Also, I was able to cut the noise considerably after, as others have pointed out, getting rid of the lid.
