Was wondering if my 150watt 14k MH light is enough to keep a clam?????
Thinking of the blue or green clam. 30gal cube 150watt MH. Put it up high or more light? LFS said 150 is good if up high. Thanx

yup! keeping it up and it should be fine lighting wise. But that's not the only thing to keep it alive.

thats more than enought to keep a clam. Try to get a clam that is over 4" as they dont require spot feedings.

Go for it. :) I've heard of folks successfully keeping clams under T5's or even some with PC's. I'd say you have enough lighting to keep the clam anywhere (I almost bought your tank once so I'm familiar with the dimensions, lol), but if you are less than totally comfortable then just keep it in the top half of the tank and you'll be golden IMO.

Good luck, and be sure to post updates!!!:)

You should never spot feed a clam, you can choke it to death. They are filter feeders.

Thanx for the responses. Ya know whats funny bout this is that I went to the LFS just to get salt and they re-did the coral section. Soooo......I go check it out and they hadmoved stuff around, put all the frags in this long and wide shallow tank. Tank was bout 6-8 inches high, with nice lighting and there they were a bunch of clams. Blue and green one. Big and small. A hand full of em were bout 1-1.5 maybe 2in big the others bout 4in. I must of had that kid in the candy store look on, when the guy came over he said "so which one you want?" I didn't think I could keep them but seems like I can. I did a lil research aswell and found out alot. They don't need to be feed, but need good water quality, good light and flow but not direct. Did I forget anything?

Probably crocea clams. The easiest to keep, IMO. Keep up high on the rocks.

Honestly animal I think you should let your tank age more before adding any filter feeders like clams. After your bout with whatever your clowns have and completely re-doing your tank if I were you I'd personally go slow before adding what I consider the more difficult to keep marine lifeforms. I know you have had success thus far but where are you at with maintaining stable calcium levels etc with your tank?

Hey Ace it does sound funny looking back on it, like if I'm not keeping clams then its okay to have bad water. LOL

Clown ur right. I need to take it slow but that was the reason why I didn't buy the clam. I feel like I already have some ez to keep corals in my tank to soon but they are doing well. Thankfully :) Anywho I'm def gunna wait before I buy anything else for my tank. Thanx for keeping me on the right track.

And thanx to everyone else for your input. Gunna wait a lil while before I add the clam besides waiting not sure I want one cause of the size it gets. Something for me to think about and if I still want it in a few months then maybe but for now I'll stick with what I got.
