killer snails!

Oddly enough, I have read that the giant apple snails have actually been known to attack live fish. Never heard of them hunting in packs though...

I would think a situation of a fish that was too dumb and too slow to avoid being eaten by snails would be one of natural selection...:y220d:

That would be the fish that trips over the stick and just watches the zombie stumble slowly up to it in a horror movie...

umm speaking of racing snails... some girl was complaining that her mystery snails werent coming out of their shells. like we sold her dead snails basically.

after some talking, we discovered that she and her friends were trying to race them on dry land

i work in a lfs too.... there's a lady who unfortunately is a regular customer (even though i refuse to sell her anymore goldfish) and one day when she came in she told me that she put some paracetemol tablets in the tank because her goldfish weren't looking well :jaw-dropping::cry::screwy::screwy:

i also gets lots of customers tell me that their filter killed their fish because they found the fish sucked up against the intake. i try to explain that the fish died from something else and then got sucked up to the filter, but they still don't believe me.

lol i hear that all the time too... i love the shifty eyed look they get like your trying to scam them when your trying to explain stuff to em.

reminds me of my neighbor... hehehe.

she owned a pet store...

she's got a fancy goldfish in a MAYBE 2 gallon bowl... on top of her fireplace mantle... with no filter... and does MAYBE monthly w/c's... and there's a ring of crud around the bowl... and a perpetual film across the top of the water... and another film across her entire substrate... and her lonely fish is always trying to break the thick surface to gasp for air... and she has no test kit... and she thinks snails would kill it...

when we had an ammonia spike in our tap water she was more worried it would harm her 7 or 8 dogs that she was killing keeping them kennelled together in an unkept room. i had to force her to even think about her fish...

the list is longer than that. it's horrible. after owning a pet store for years (over a decade) and selling fish you'd think she'd have done her homework. the funny thing is she tries to give me advice on my planted tanks. until she saw my setups she had no clue you could even keep plants in an aquarium. she thought it was a gimmick other stores used to get more money out of you. i mean with tubed plants and all i kinda understand why but i find it hard to believe with an entire library full of animal related books (that her ex husband studied) and surrounded by rivers, lakes, ponds, etc. full of plant life that 1 and 1 didn't add up to 2 somehow...

just 2 weeks ago her son saw i was feeding a little bit of eggplant to my b/n's. he was all too excited to tell mom the new thing he'd seen. when he did she made it a point to call me and notify me that i'd be killing my fish because egg plant is used as a meat tenderizer and surely it would rot my healthy fish to death from the inside out. she was almost frantic.

sweet lady... means well... should know what she's talking about before telling someone that knows better...

i do understand why she thinks there's just simply no fish that live past 2 years though... :wall:

I am so relieved that the orginal poster put this post up! Who knew that I was harboring four of these killers in my goldfish tank! I didn't know the obvious danger. :)
I have always found it more likely that my goldfish use the snails for soccer practice. I wouldn't be surprised to find one of the ivories painted with little black hexagons with two of my capture nets set up at either end of the tank.

Meh, I just go to the petsmart and talk to the cutest girl there and pretend like I don't know anything....:)
