what are some good tank mates for killifish. i was looking at them on the web and they look very nice.

Thanks David D

I have also recently become enamored of killifish, and have been researching them a bit. According to the book I got they like slightly acidic, soft water, so look for fish with those water preferences. They also spend a lot of time at the top, so fish which prefer the middle or the bottom of the tank would be good, that way they will be less likely to bother eachother.

I have found that killifish do better in a species only tank. They tend to be shy in community tanks and will not get enough food. It also depends on what type of killies you want.

I have a banded kuhlii in one tank and a black kuhlii in another. Mine spend most of thier time on the bottom of the tank. The banded has taken over a piece of driftwood that has lots of nooks and crannies for him to crawl through.

I have 2 angels, 2 blue rams and some tetras and ghost shrimp in with the one kuhlii.........and guppies and panda corys in with the other. I worry a bit about the one in the tank with the angels getting enough to eat as the tetras are pretty quick at snapping up anything I put in there, but I do see him crawling around the bottom sniffing out scraps. I just be sure to drop something in there for him after lights are out.

I hear that kuhliis will be more visible if you have a group of them in a tank, rather than just one. My black seems to be less shy than the banded one.
