well im a bit partial but BGK's are the best if you get 2 off them in a large enof tank
what do you consider large?

Nice tank Matak, the bkg and loaches will do nicely! I'd have clowns too except for tank size limitation. I like the bkg because he's not a bulky fish, (as an oscar for example) growing long and narrow, he fits into tiny crevices, that's why he looks good in a planted tank. He doesn't disrupt the plants at all, gliding through them without moving them. I don't think he's high on adding to the bioload. Now, those pesky weather loaches on the other hand.......hmm are another story. They like to dig around the plants causing me to replant almost every day! Luv them tho.....
Looks like it will be a cool tank Matak, post pics later!
Thanks Ryknier....I'm glad I could contribut my newbie best.. I learned most of what I know from here and surfing the info. Your tanks sounds and looks fun and lively. The ghost gets better, you might want to try getting him to handfeed in time. It takes alot of patience. I was on the verge of getting him to handfeed in the smaller tank, but now its harder with the deeper one. He seems to have forgotten how. He prefers to feed on the bottom. It might take a while of acclimatizing again. With the bkg you need time and patience.

Some guy has posted something on how to do it somewhere... I'll see if I can find it.

Swimfins, what do you think of having 2 bgks? Think that would be soo neat, but wouldn't you have to get rid of one eventually? And knowing what I have, what plants would go good with my selection?

Overstocking? In a 72g? Some people would say 3 full grown clown loaches would be that.

I was rereading some of the posts and noticed this, 2 bgks could work though huh??

do ghosts not produce a lot of waste, is that why you could have 3 CLOWNS? Take it that they can get to 36", and a bgk can barely get 20"

If you look carefully, your 'knife' has a bony spine, and a very thin body mass. He does not have the mass as an oscar, or even a goldfish does. He doesn't consume alot of food as say platy's do. In my experience. The waste of 5 platy's in a day, is more than my bkg has doen in 3 months lol.

You can keep several knives, but the tank must be large 180g or so would be best. I would stick to one if I was you until his size max's out. If you didn't have three clowns, you might be able to have another ghost. Its just a question of space. So..... that they have they're own hunting space and won't cross electrical signals too often. I've never kept clowns, because I read on here that they can get up to 12 - 16 inches each. I am already to capacity with other fish.
Unfortunately, ya can't keep all species :( Although I try lol. I have to settle for weather loaches (2) that max out at 6 inches each. Cute fish tho. All the loaches are fun. The dojos don't hide, which is an aspect that I like. They come up to my hand to see what I'm doing in the tank. They will suck on my hand when I'm not paying attention. My daughter was in the shower and heard me yelp the first time that happened lol. Its feels kinda like a vaccumm with a soft bristle brush. Ick!

Isn't the matter of having more than one BGK in one tank a temperment issue than anything else? I heard that they are like SAE's, fine on their own, but nasty if another one of their kind is in the same tank. But I dunno, maybe it's a tank size issue?

BTW, one of the reasons I really want to get a BGK is that I had one 22 years ago and loved it!

Well the idea was defiantely a short one on my standing of not getting a 2nd, just because of size of the tank, and I do respect the space of the other fish. One thing at a time, no rushes! maybe this would be a thing to consider, a 2nd tank *gasps* GREAT SCOTT! nahh, I love my setup now, I would probably perfer more plants for the BGK!

I heard they squabble in each others company, but don't kill each other.

Plants are nice for any tank. Removes nitrates and provides peaceful spaces to rest. My bkg will just go up and lodge himself in a plant and hang there. He'll lay like that for a good ten minutes or so. Once I thought it was bad news when I saw him lay there for a long time. Then he just kind of swam out and started schmoozing the bottom like normal. Just a nap maybe.

Plants are always best. I remember my bgk ripped a fin on a fake cabomba plant early on when I had only had him a few weeks. I pulled out the plastic at that time.

You can start with java fern (slow growth), hygropholia (fast growth), valseneria (slow growth) If you have 40 watt of light over your tank these will grow.

How much wattage do you have over your tank? How many gallons (72g
I think?) calculate your wattage to gallon ratio, you can choose plants from there... Or up your lighting and add CO2. Now your getting up to your neck lol!!!!

I would love to get more plants in my tank, do I have to quarntine these plants?
and what is best for the BGK
