I've read that you can disinfect plants by soaking in a solution of 1:20 bleach/water. If you do this, just soak them in dechlorinator and water before planting. I just added mine, not thinking of a problem. I suppose quarantine might be a good idea tho..... I also used some plants that were in my 25g already. Your bkg will love any plants, I'm sure. Try stem plants, these are fast growing and give places to lie inside. An amazon sword in the middle might be nice in your tank as well. It makes a nice centrepiece as it gets pretty big, and grows under lower light with no CO2, quite nicely.

Ryknier, if you want to bleach-soak your plants, post in 'Aquatic Plants' and describe the type of plant you are dealing with. Soft plants goet soaked for a short period of time while harder, waxier plants get soaked for a longer period. Want to get inspired for planted tanks? Click here!

wow, thats a nice site, I have been looking for a site like this! with the floor/aquarium plan on it! Thanks Matak.
Swimfins, thanks, I will check out what my stores have around here for plants! I will post pictures of what it looks like if I get plants.
Hey I was wondering how you fed your bgk, do you take a few bloodworms in your figers or..... cause mine is coming out a lot now, quite surprising but I like it a lot! I love it in fact, he is SOOOO graceful, its so neat to watch him swim!!! especially with his bottom fin! so graceful!

Here is a picture of a guy handfeeding his BGK, this is neat, this is about how big mine is!!!

I am trying to see what are some tips into this stage! Swimfins, do you recommend using bloodworms?

My green severum eats from my hand no problem, he is so lathargic (is that the right word?)/tame!

WOW amazing site I just found!!!!! This is on the breeding of BGKs!!

Breeding

Tell me whatcha think of this find guys!

Sorry I am on a roll of finding sites right now! Here is a forum for BGKs if any one is interested!!!! BGK Forum

Sorry, this is a lot of posts, these should have been combined!

Nice link. The breeder won't divulge his secrets hmmmm. I read where someone has visited sheds built over tributary of the Orinoco river, ghost knives inhabit these sheds where the fish swim freely in and out. The pregnant fish deposit there eggs in the sheds where they drop through screens and are collected and reared by fishkeepers until the fry can be sold after about 4 months or so.

Cute babies eh? :)

I found if I soaked pieces of market shrimp in bloodworm 'juice', like when you thaw frozen bloodworms in water (just keep the bloody water and soak quarter inch, bigger thn mouthsize pieces of shrimp in it) hold the shrimp until he comes to get it. He catches the blood smell first. He also likes stinky brine shrimp and you can try soaking market shrimp in stinky brine shrimp water.....yummmmmmmm! If he's hungry, he'll come to get it fast. It helps to feed only once a day so.. he''s pretty hungry.

I just finished my tank. (I think, but it can change!) This is a pic attatched.
My bkg is in the rock cave in the bushes at far right. You can just se the top of one of the rocks.

I am joining that site, my nick will be SpookKnife :)

wow I like the tank!!! two thumbs up on that!!! Do you have a "plant layout"? A lot of places in there for the bgk, hey are your lights timed? or manual? and how long in the day do you keep them on, and what hours?

Thanks! I don't have a timer as of yet. (this payday) I turn on the 40 watt strip in the morning just to take a look and count heads. I turn on the pc compact at about 11:30 am and off at 11:30 pm. Soooooo, about 12 hours, in all. I'm hoping to cover every square inch with plants. I'm using 2 types of grass in front. I will keep the one that grows bbest and covers the gravel completely. Might ttake awhile, but it keeps it interesting and is nice to come home to at night and just watch the fishies and Spook while he prowls. I just use the lowlight so he isn't "spooked" by the power compacts which are really bright. :) I planned this tank around him.

That is a nice tank, SF

I liked the forum. Gonna join when I get my BGK. Great news! My wife gave the 'thumbs up' for building the corner tank. By the fall, I should have a BGK swimming about in a well planted 138g - 190g tank.
