Knifefish

who hoo!!! I came home just now at 11:50 pm and my moonlights were on, and they are pretty neat being how they are, and look who is out and about! I didn't get a chance to feed them in the afternoon, but I melted a of bloodworms trough some in and let it sit for awhile and through the rest in, and he was eating! I ran and got my night viewing video camera and got some pics! NEAT!!!! I will post them tomorrow, crazy little guy, maybe thats what I will name him, Crazy! I likey!

Update on my little knifefish, so he has grown about 1 inch, he comes out quiet often, and during the night, he is EVERYWHERE!!!! This guy is soo cool, I don't know but I think me and swimfins got a good deal since ours come out quite often!!! I will get a pic sometime, when I am not lazy!

Very nice. I'm happy because I feel he is a much maligned and misunderstood fish.

I moved mine to a larger tank. He has a rock cave. I caught him in a tupperware bowl, I just lifted up his lavarock house, picked it up to the top of the water level and he slid down into the bowl, still sleeping. It was so funny. I had such a fight with the others.

Now he has a new residence in a rock cave. He comes out after I turn of my pc lights and just use the 40 watt fluroscent. Last night, I sat on the couch and watched him snooping. Pretty cool the way they fly around the tank. He eats bloodworms and market shrimp and skims the substrate for leftovers.
Never bothers another fish.

Right now I'm dealing with an outbreak of ich in the tank...only the tetras seem to be affected. If I lose my bkg, I'll be heartbroken. :o If I lose him, I will get another for sure. ... fingers crossed watching like a hawk.
I can't wait til this tank is fully planted it will be super to watch him, I know he enjoyed the plants in my other tank.

I love how graceful he is! He makes it look so effortless. What plants do you have in? I am working my way up, I have 2 planted now, one is almost all eaten up from me not being there for vacation, it was expected, but it has a bunch of new growth on the bottom, and I have brown algae growing all over it too!

I was origionally thinking to plant an African garden in honor of my bkg, but then I decided to add my 2 gourami whom needed more space. So....it looks like a community tank. Right now I've got 2 Amazon swords that get pretty big and some hygropholia polysperma which is great even in low light. I'm waiting till I can remove the salt thru water changes, and lower the temp before I can plant it.

You might be thinking of an algae eater now......like a rubber lip or bushy nose pleco to help clean up. Planted tanks are a whole new ballgame. Trim the dead from your plants and give the rest time to renew. Make sure your lighting is adequate and left on for enough hours per day. The plant should respond in a few days.

I have read that the BGK is a peacefull fish and a good candidate for community tanks. For the algae crew, would the BGK be OK with SAE's? or as small as OTO's? I'm really pushing the envelope here, but how about even Amano shrimp? Having a knife and a cleaning crew would be desirable.

BTW Swimfins, how is the ich issue going in your tank?

Ryknier, are the loaches and BGK still compatable after more than one month?

Ich issue is resolved, thanks, I lowered the temp and planted the tank today as a mater of fact.
I keep my BKG with 2 amano shrimp and I have one otto left (out of 3)
But it wasn't my bkg who did it, the bodies were found intact. Ottos are delicate and my lfs is still having problems with them. The amano shrimp are very smart, and fast. I have 2 and they have been around for awhile. Good hiders, I spot them from time to time.

I can't say that my bkg won't spot them eventually, but I keep him well fed.

Actually no they weren't, the guy at the LFS store told me they are really good at hiding and if you see them in action, they can fly faster than any fish, must keep holes covered tho, I found one on the floor this morning. There is a half inch gap at the back where the filter tubing runs in, &^%$#
Looks like they're they're own worst enemy. I'm going to lower my water level until I can get a mesh to cover it.

I have yet to see my bkg harass another fish, he doesn't like them near his rock cave, and will push them away. Its funny to see a cory wander near and the get the boot. He's a gentle meanie. Now, my pictus cat is another story.... I'm more worried about him consuming the little guys than my 'mean' old black ghost lol.....
