kuhli loach questions

I am thinking of purchasing 5-6 kuhli loaches. I have a few questions though.

I have java moss. Will this be a problem?

Also I will have a betta in the 29 gallon tank with them.

I have my temp at about 80 degrees

I have small smooth aquarium gravel.

I have been reading up but wanted to know what you thought. please reply! i want these guys to live! thanks!

also, since they are so hard to catch, would it be better to skip the quarantine?

that sound slike the perfect khuli loach environment, right down to plants from their natural habitat (java moss).
 
no,just because they are hard to catch doesnt mean you shouldnt QT them..better safe than sorry :)
 
alrighty then! I will quarantine them for a few weeks then release them into the big tank! I AM worried that many will die. I'm not rich. But I guess I should take the chance!

any other advice?

well as long as you really trust your dealer and can pick healthy ones, I see no need for QTing them.

i'm not saying it's not a good idea, but you don't NEED to.

Totally disagree and that is not sound advice. You should always QT new fish before putting them in an established tank with others.
 
well my really trusted LFS does not have them. Its the other LFS in town that is not as good but they looked ok when I saw them last. I will quarantine them just to be safe!!!


oh!! are they much on the bioload??

I have 3 kuhlis in my 20-gallon. They seem to have minimal impact on bioload compared to the other fish I have.

One piece of advice - I originally had 4 kuhlis, and they were very small when I got them. One swam into the intake valve of my filter...didn't find him until it was too late. I would definitely put some type of screen over the filter intake because these guys love to exploere and can fit into the smallest of spaces.
