Hi,

I have a 30 gallon tank that has lake tanganika written all over it. Please share your ideas. Please share all your ideas. The tank is completely empty, so ideas about decor will be appreicated too. Thanks,

Shelldwellers would be your best bet. Some white rocks, white sand and additional empty shells would make a nice touch to the tank. For plants, try anubias and Java fern which can be tied to the rocks.

Shellies, julis, altolamps (calvus and compressiceps) smaller xenotilipia, leluepi. Almost any of the smaller Tanganyikans would work...also gobies. What did you have in mind? The only problem with shellies and calvus that I can see is that the calvus would eat the fry if you get any. Some would make it though.

I am starting to think of the following:

paracyprichromis (6)
julis (4)
multies (5)
another shellie too? I too, but I understand that could cause problems with the multies...would it be OK if I just got a single brevis or could I get away with 2?

That is if I can find them...we don't have a wide selection of tangs at the LFS.

I really like variety and enjoy the different kinds of fish...so the more different kinds of species, the better...don't want to go with anything hard to keep either...simple is best

I am also toying with the idea of changing to a 33 gallon tank (4' long)--from what I am reading the fish will appreciate the room.

I wouldn't stock more than multi's and julies in a 30. The tank is too small for paracyp's too, they're actually a rock-dwelling fish. Once the multi's and julies sort themselves out and start spawning the tank will become full soon enough. I have multi's and buescheri in a 55, a breeding pair w/fry on one end, shells and colony of multi's in the middle, and a second rockpile on the other end. I suspect the second rockpile will become another breeding territory once the juvie buescheri grow a bit more. Now, it's home to a single adult.

Go with either paracyps with the multis or julis with the multis. You could have one rock pile (needed for both julis and paracyps). Paracyps are sedentary fish...unlike cyps that move a lot and need more swimming room. The three species in one 30 gallon tank would be too much.

i have julidochromis species that are so interesting to watch. they are REALLY eeasy to bread and i have hAD WELL OVER 100 FRY SUCCESSFULLY raised. i would reccomend the Marlieri species !!!!GOMBE!!!. i would only reccomend the gombe as they are only about 2-3 inches full grown.

Brichardi are awesome fish. You could fill the whole tank by adding only 4-5 brichardi... The pair would form (or the male might select two females..) and then before you know it, your down to 2-3 fish, then before you know it, your well over 50-100!
