LARGE FLORIDA ANEMONE

I heard of clown adjusting to Condys but I never have seen with my own eyes nor had successful experiences from numerous trials neither with tomato nor maroon.
Oh, nothing with fire clown either.

Has any member(s) actually tried and had success?

I do recall losing tomato pretty fast when stung by cerianthus. Yes, I'm poisonous and can sting, lol! '
Tomato displayed seizure like behavior/symptom right after being stung and gone within minutes.
Never tap on glass and spook the fish!!! Behavior usually executed by non hobbyists, guest(s). Made a sign, laminated and posted on the top rim of all tanks after this mishap.
Even had guests bumped their heads onto front glass due to crystal clarity of water in reef set up, causing avalanches of LR/corals. That really P_____ me off but cant express my feelings since I rather avoid remote chance of being tormented by BIG BOSS (Non hobbyist) of the household. LOL!
Non hobbyist will never know how painful it is to loose any fish, especially for s_____ reasons.

At one of the LFSs I worked at, we managed to get Condylactis to host certain clownfish species all the time. The primary ones were A. clarkii, though. They seemed to be the least picky. Over time, though, I've seen a lot more species, like A. melanopus, frenatus, etc.

Perhaps different types of Atlantic anemones than what was avail to me 20 yrs ago??

If memory serves, it is not that clown are immune to stings but have evolved to synthesize antidote when triggered by chemicals released by nematocysts as they constantly get stung by anemone.

Now you mentioned it, nothing with clarkii either.

Maybe oneday i get to bring my own condy from ocean and try different clowns!

I wonder If I will get to see clowns adapted to Condy (hope not) in N Eastern Atalntic Ocean as Global Warming and irresponsible behavior of some hobbyist have relocated (??) some tropicals, including non Atlantic Fish such as lionfish (yet to catch them personally) to NE coast.

Curious question, aren't the majority of Gold Stripe Maroon clowns tank raised? If so, mine would have not known an anemone from a frogspawn, yet, it jumped in and made it its home in no time. One more pic. Had this Clown/Anemone combo for 7 years.

Yes, specifically their mucus. It is a cruel experiment, but you can observe this if you were to scrape off a portion of their mucus and re-release them back to their anemone. They will get stung in short order. I don't recommend doing it purposefully, though, since they can die from it.

Ace, in my area, most gold stripes are wild-caught.

Ok, one other question, do Condy's actually split? I assume they do but in 7 years mine never did, but everyone I know with BTAs would have them split 1-2 times a year.

Thanks for the info. I guess they do it well in nature if they are so cheap and plentiful in the trade. It seems just about every condy would have to have been taken out of nature, where as I bet with BTA's a large majority that are out there are splits/clones so not nearly as many would have to be harvested out of the oceans.

it was my understanding that condylactus sting too much to host clowns...
