What is the largest fish you would suggest for a 5 gallon tank? It will have to be a rather hardy fish because the environment will have minimal support. I am going to try my gag tank - putting a fish in a 5 gallon water bottle and making it look like the drinking water is coming from the bottle with the fish.

betta

but its never good to start off with the mindset of giving your fish minimal support.

some kind of gourami? quite 'tall bodied' which makes them look bigger than they are and pretty hardy in my opinion. maybe a dwarf.

wow, that sounds like a bad idea. there are several kinds of fish that can be kept in a five gallon tank - heterandria formosa, a single molly or betta, maybe a trio of guppies, etc. . . but how are you going to heat and filter this water bottle? if you try to fill it up al lthe way and stick a fish in there, every single fish is going to die. there is just not enough surface area to allow enough oxygen exchange for the fish to continue to breathe. if you only fill it halfway, you really can't put any fish in there. not enough water.

Do you know how much stress that would give the fish, when you flipped it's world upside down?!

No heater, no filter = dead fish.

Get a realistic plastic one, or some snails at the most.
