Also check the nitrate in your tap water,just for kicks and giggles,to see where it is at.If it gives the same results as your tank(which it might) then you definitely have a bad test.

I like it,it's cool!(my cats get in our empty tanks too,lol)There is no way those plants have anything to do with your nitrate.
i'm taking some water to the LFS to get it tested to verify my results...
