lets talk about sure fire signs your cichlids are a couple.

Flaring is one for sure..... but can also be out of aggression

what about tail whipping i see this all the time.

and lip locking???? ive seen two females do this?/

lets hear what your experiences are

they check into the same room at the cichlid motel...

Lip locking is a sure sign of aggression.

Mating can have its violent times such as liplocking hence liplocking is interpreted as aggression against each other. I've noticed my severums flaring and liplocking a lot before they spawn and when the eggs disappear (thanks to my loaches), they liplock a lot.

i agree lupin, also ive noticed that if i have a strong pair they will get side to side and tailwhip back and forth

My 2 female blood parrots lip-lock and have semi-agressive behavior towards each other every 3 weeks. Then they both lay eggs but only one fans them. The other tries but the "fanning" one will chase her away. After the eggs they are very aggressive towards me. They both also get very pale. Then after a few days and they eat all the eggs, they get their color back and are nice again.

Actually, it seems very similar for me being female if you know what I mean, though I don't lay eggs:)

ha..... i get it...... anyway ive heard of this happening females laying eggs together, but i think a large indication that cichlids are going to breed is the cleaning and protection of a flower pot or flat surface
