Does anybody know if there is a local agency in the US that you can call about the condition of fish being kept/sold by this store? I was at a certain LFS Last night and they had 8 yellow tangs in a tank that are being starved.. I broght it to the attention of corporate offices, and to the staff. They outright refused to feed these poor fish. They are in such bad shape that you can see the ribs and spine of the fish their stomachs are very pinched. I revisitid the store after calling corporate and they still will not feed the fish or give them algea to graze on.... I am at a loss for these poor fish. I was so disgusted last night that I left the store. I want to go back and feed these poor fish.

Thanks Scotty

How could they not feed the fish? Do they just expect them to be bought quickly enough that they won't have to?
That's just messed up.

:(

whats their reason for not feeding? Bring some food with you and stealthy drop it in the tank :)

Also I thought ***** was done with SW?

The attitude they gave me was basically we pay so little for the fish, and feeding them is so expensive the it is not worth their while to feed them. We all know that Tangs are grazers and the was not even an empty algea clip in the tank....Very disgusting!!!

I even brought to their attention that in the FW Section that there were upwads of 30+ dead fish floating around in their tanks. He said Oh...and walked away, not to be seen again while I was in the store. The only reason I even went there was for pre-filter pads, as it is the only place close where I can find them.

Luckily, my local ***** breaks the rules..
One of the guys who works the fish dept. told me they weren't allowed to feed the predatory fish any live food, because it was "cutting into their sales".

He then told me, he does it all the time, and screw what the "corporation" says...

I go in there all the time, and I see grazing clips all over, and some rather healthy looking fish. They move their stock pretty quickly, and seem to listen to the customer requests. I actually found MACROALGEA in ***** , when I couldn't find it anywhere else locally.

To me, it sounds like your store needs an employee flushing...

All the ***** 's around me have Saltwater, especially clowns. But none of them can keep freshwater fish alive, I've gone into 2 locally and all their tanks were empty except for a few mollies and platies that they look like were using to seed all the empty tanks. Its sad, that I've seen better cared for tanks at walmart lately.

Take pics of the fish that are dead and starving and distribute them throughout the parking lot. Write a letter to the local newspaper explaining this, you could even include some pics. You have to get people to stop buying livestock then, when their business declines maybe they will take notice.

Please refrain from using the LFS's name on threads. It's happened in the past where certain lfs's targetted public forums for negative comments being left, and it created a mess for everyone...

thank you... If anyone's concerned and would like to have more details, please keep it out of public forums and resort to using PMs.

Thank you,

c ...

Oh and as for the lfs in question, yeah.. I agree... Horrible...

My local store also has problems keeping FW and i always wondered why, until I went in last week to pick up some crickets. They were redoing the "look" of the tanks by removing all the substrate scrubbing the glass and decor then dumping new substrate in and replacing all the filter media-WITHOUT any water changes. When I asked I was told that as long as you leave the same water in the tank it will not cause a cycle. Instead of arguing I just told the mgr that she could forget me EVER buying fish there again.
