lighting for anacharis

What would the watt/gallon level need to be to keep a anacharis, I want one sooooo badly, and everyplace say's they are so easy to grow but they seem to be in the higher lighting range, am I correct on this? :huh: I will only have about 1.5watt/gallon unless I end up getting one more light fixture which would put me at just a touch over 2watts. I'm not sure I will be doing this though I kinda want to keep it lower, so if I do not want to get into CO2 everything can still be ok (will be using florish exel though).

Did they look "sickly" or were they just not as nice as if they were grown under the right lighting? Did they last? I want a couple but I don't want to get them if they are going to look bad, as I said they are one of my favorites that I have looked at.
Do you know of any plant that looks like them that would do ok under low lights?

I grew mine at .5 wpg and they were just a little leggy. Now they are at 2wpg and not leggy, but they won't stop *#@$)")$ growing! I have to cut those darn things down every 3 days or so.

I'm beginning to dislike this plant. I am constantly replanting it every time I vacuum the gravel around it.

They didn't look sickly and grew at a fairly fast rate. Coloration was fine. But the stem was thinner than under higher light (I get the same with bacopa) and there is more spacing between leaves.
 
I grow mine under 2 wpg. The plant grows ridiculously fast something like an inch to an inch and a half a day. My goldfish love me because of this :D

I cut the top half off and replant it when they get too large. The bottom half goes into the goldie tank. When I want to propogate the plant I leave both halfs in the substrate. The bottom half will soon sprout a new branch and grow llike crazy giving me 2 plants. These can be cut again. I bought one bunch for $1.99 and quickly filled 2 aquariums with it.

So you can just cut it, stick it in the substrate, and it grows?!?! Wow I think I want this plant!!

Pretty much the easiest to care for plant I have. The only way I've ever killed this plant was with a salt treatment for ich. This plant hates salt that all I can tell you. But since it can be grown floating, all you need to do is leave it in some sort of pot in old aquarium water with a little bit of light (the ambient light in your room will do) if you ever need to treat with salt. Do the full 14 day treatment, remove the salt via waterchanges and add the plants back to the tank. By that time any parasites on the plant will have starved to death.
 
Ok thanks everyone, Now I just can't wait to get everything and get it all together!

I'm sure I will make another post or two before I get it all set up, really I will be adding a new one soon, I want to think of all the things I am not sure of and ask before I really do it.

My anacharis has been sending down fast growing vertical vines that anchor themselves to the substrate like they are starting to root. Is this typical behaviour? Kinda neat, as it gives my small tank a jungle-like appearance.
