i was gonna set up a saltwater tank and a voiltan lionfish is my main fish.....the lfs wase telling me my 55 gallon would be ok...what do u think? and also im new at salt water any tips on setting up the ater...im sure my lfs will help me but never hurts to get as much info befor hand

55g is ok. your gunna want some Live Sand, about 60lbs of Live Rock and a protien skimmer,a powerhead and definatley a Ph,Nitrite,Nitrate tes kit.

yah i know im gonna need a skimmer...although they say you dont need that right off the bat...and that live rock is expensive.....oh and salt to huh lol

Just to get my 55 gallon up and going it cost me in between $700 and $1,000. I have all the basics as far as equipment EXCEPT for a skimmer. I also didn't have to by the stand for the tank as I had a stand from a previous 55 gallon setup. Let me tell you, the setup cost is pretty high, but MORE THAN WORTH IT. If I had to start all over from scratch again I would do it in a heartbeat. To me there is nothing more relaxing than watching you own "private ocean". Seeing all the fish and inverts in their inviroment is a beautiful thing. Just make sure to take care of them and they will give you countless hours of enjoyment.
Good luck with the setup.

Well i t might take me longer cause im using my 55 freshshwater tank and converting it...cause i have a 125 freshwater thats about to be setup....so thats why i was asking all what i was gonna need

Hold on! Hold on!
Back the truck up!
I dont believe psychadelicdrea said he wanted a reef tank.
He could just as easily have a Fish Only tank.
So in which case he whouldnt need Much at all.
except salt, a hydro/refracto-meter, And some decore. Lions are messy eaters so i whould recommend getting sand.
His current tank, light, heater and filter system (as long as its not UGF) should be fine.

yeah i talked to my sfs about the reef and he broke it down in a somewhat afforabdable mannor so im not sure what ill end up with...but i dont know if the lion has to have life rock

Nope the Lion doesnt need live rock.
