No I dont touch the rock I vacuum the areas that I can easily reach and when I pour in the new water I pour it behind the rocks to get junk out in front of the tank instead of behind rocks but ofcourse areas I never get .
However getting the front of tank is fine as its worked for me better than with sand.
I would never touch the rock as its dangerous due to it scratching the glass and stressful to the fish. Its fairly easy not anything thats a pain .
