My hood is 5 3/4" tall.
Originally I used three different bulb wattages because I wanted to use 6 bulbs and I was shooting for an overall total off wattage. The way to get to that exact wattage was to use different bulbs.
However, I have upgraded it. It's now over a 45g tank, and now it holds 8 bulbs, all 26w. It's too much light. I'll probably drop it down to just 6 26w bulbs.
There's no down side to using all the same wattage bulb.
