With regard to spelling, they're teaching Sophie to write phonetically (as it sounds) which helps the kids to be uninhibited. Those who aren't lucky enough to have parents who read to them at night, and haven't got the basics, can still have a go at writing a little story without feeling they'll be ridiculed for incorrectly spelling a word or using inappropriate grammer.
I must admit I find the lack of punctuation, grammer and spelling, here concerning. It took time to get used to. I'm not particularly capable, and know it can be something of a social /employment barrier.
I like the way ky has useed the French word without spelling phonetically. It would lose its subtle nuance.
