omfg why was i not given the stupid memo that ctenopoma is a fish breed, WHY WOINT YOU TELL THE NOOBS ANYTHING?!?!?!?!?:mad2:
i posted this over at MFK so here it goes:
(this is most of what i know, but soon i will update this info.)
I tryed to make it short and to the point, but i can give you the long version if you would like
Ctenopoma information For everyone:

Until 1995, basicly all the "bushfish" were in the genus Ctenopoma. In that year, the ichthyologist Norris described a new species in the quarterly journal Ichthyological Explorations in Freshwater and found that the genus Ctenopoma was made up of two different and tellable evolutionary lines. So he divided the groups into species within either the newer genus Microctenopoma and those left in the older genus Ctenopoma.

Aquarists have mistaken the size of this fish as a guide to the genus. This is why many aquarists write about the Microctenopoma ansorgii, but that fish is still in the Ctenopoma genus. A quite similar species is Microctenopoma nana, and the similarly might have led people to draw to a false conclusion. Anyway, the "micro" is trying to explain the structures of the fish rather than the actual adult size of the fish in the genus.

Many people have bred ctenopomas, but we have trouble getting them to do it again.Plus breeding these fish is out of only luck and Ctenopomas breed when they feel like it which in my opinion isn't very often due to sexing.

Ctenopomas are uncommon, so few aquarists even try them, and that leaves little to no experience for us so confirm. Occasionally they’re imported and you’ll find them at your local pet stores, Don‘t rely on the old statistical model of six fish giving you a 98 percent shot at a pair. Ctenopomas may be imported of mostly one sex or another, so try to get as many as you can and hope you have both male and females to pair up. If you can sex a pair, then
get ready to raise some very beautiful ambush predators.

If you can't find these then try a online vendor, or check out some loacl pet stores that carry some good stock.I have about twleve currently 4 adults and 8 smaller babies, the adult i believe are 2 males and two femlaes and im trying to get some more females to pleasure the guys, the babies i can not yet sex.

Most anabantoids are Asian fishes, but the genus ctenopomas are African fish. Most produce weakish and smallish bubblenests to support floating eggs(like bettas), but some species need very dense bubbles because the eggs weigh more then the water itself.

Most ctenopomas are very slow(besides the famous kingsleye and other big boys of the ctenopoma genus), and lazy ambush predators. They wait among plants, beneath sunken driftwood, or some large rock caves, and shoot their mouths short distances to any small prey in range.Even as babies they take feeders and will gladly take almost any carnivourous food and they need a stable diet.

If you find eggs in your tank from the dtenopoma and have catfish....take the catfish out immedietly, catfish are not good tankmates for ctenopoma tanks, as they’ll find and eat the eggs and fry before you see them. Instead, keep plenty of snails, shrimps and any other small inverts( not to small),they also love planted tanks it gives them a natural look and would hide amougst the leaves.

These fish will be one of your favorite, they have awsome personalitys, and will quikly become your show peice fish.

they should be in a tank 10 gallons or bigger a 10 might be a little small for some full grown ctenopomas so they may require and upgraded tank size.

there are many different species you can try with very different colors.

Oh yes, im hyper and good thing I type fast

Hope you liked my little write up.
