a lot of people think you need a ton of machines to keep a SW alive, mainly protein skimmers, sumps, crazy strong lights. thats why people get turned off from the idea, but its not entirely true

on such a small tank, no protein skimmer would be required, unless your going to keep very fragile corals. you can just skim the old fasion way.

same thing with the sump, it always helps to have extra filtration but not that much is needed for fish or hardy corals. a HOB and 1 or 2 powerheads (like koralia or tunze), a lot of live rock, and a good 1.5 - 3 inches of sand is plenty filtration for smaler tank like a 20L

strong lights are only required for corals, but most soft corals dont need as much lighting as SPS corals or clams. i am not good with lights, youll need to ask around for suggestions on what kind of lights to get

Thanks cam. I don't exactily know what I want in there. I love cardinals and clownfish. I also saw some shrimp that were pretty awesome. But on the other hand corals are awesome. I'm gonna have to spend some time surfing the forums for some information on what I can keep. It being my first sw tank I think it will be simple. I can get a 40gal for $20. The problem with using it is that I just don't have the room right now.
