I have a 29 gallon tank, with 3 fish, all lake mawalian (sp) african cichlids.

1 acei
1 Red devil
1 electric yellow

Half of my tank is rock, the other half is sand. Tonight I noticed that my acei is over in the sand, and real close to it, and it appears that he/she is swimming as hard as he/she can at the glass. It starts up against it, so it's not like its getting a run at it. It throws sand around which looks cool. Is it seeing it's reflection and trying to get at itself?

Is there anything I can do/should do?

Also, is my tank overstocked? The guy at the fish store told me I could probably get up to 6 in my tank. They are all probably 2 inches long, and seem to get around pretty well. They chase eachother some, but don't really bite at eachother.

The reflection which you see looking through the front glass at the side glass is not visible to the fish in the tank - it is an artifact of looking through one piece of glass at another which is angled to the first. The fish is trying to swim through an invisible barrier, the glass.

One of my balas do that, It makes me feel bad, Poor guy, but like you said hes not getting a running start so it shouldn't be a problem!!
