i am looking for some oddball fish that i could breed and would fit in a 40 gallon tank. What would be some good ideas? Maybe some rare cichlids?

most oddball fish are going to need more room then the fourty g. you could try rope fish while they are youg but they would need a larger tank soon for them.

well my newest thought is maybe just put a pair or trio of juvenile peacocks (Aulonocara sp. Zunga) in my 40 gallon then i could switch them to one of my bigger cichlid tanks later on.

I"d suggest african butterfly fish also.

They are quite wierd looking and will make a nice addition to your tank.

ABFs are most cool. Mine was eating out of my hand in no time, and it's a very interesting fish, visually. I'd recommend a glass lid for best viewing.

Endlers are nice, but I wouldn't consider them oddballs. Cichlids either, for that matter.

Are you looking for something easy to breed, or something that would maybe be a challenge to breed?
