LOOKING for the Best Quality food out there!

Obviously when you ask for opinions you're going to get a lot of varied anwers, but as illustrated by this thread so far, the top three are generally the same - Omega One, New Life Spectrum, and Hikari (in no particular order). I have used mostly Omega One and my fish do well on it and seem to love it, but I recently switched to food from Kensfish.com, which is also going over very well. I like it because I can buy it in bulk relatively cheaply, and seems to work just as well as the Omega One.

:iagree:

Omeg makes a flake called first flake it is infused with garlic which is an appetite stimulant. This should get your guppies to eat flake then wean them over to what ever flake you have available.

NLS also has garlic enhanced flakes (as well as most if not all of their pellets). This does not just get them eating, but also helps take care of internal parasites.

Definitely take a good look at NLS (especially on their site) and then see if the others seem to come close.

I feed my fish all kinds of stuff. Frozen Brine is like crack to both the S. Americans and the Africans. Second to the Brine is Hikari gold pellets for me.

My Synodontis cats go ballistic for Microcrabs. Have no idea what it is. Looks like little bacon bits. DrsFosterSmith sent me a few cans in each of my last 4 orders or so and now I have boat loads of the stuff. But the Synos come out in fill light with no problem when this stuff hits the tank.

I planned on ordering NLS the last time I placed an order but it was with DrsFosterSmith and they didn't care it. So it looks like a special order for That Pet Place since they carry it.

Oh, I also feed my Africans Tetra Cichlid, Spilurina flake mixed with the Tetra Cichlid (sp?), Cichlid Sticks and Cichlid Crisps. Sometimes I only feed one thing. Sometimes 4 things. I like to keep it varied but high quality....

Yesterday I bid and won 2 omega one fish foods. flake for cichlids, and flakes for other fish. I will look into the NLS now and the hakari thanks all :)

NL Spectrum is awesome stuff

Definitely try the NLS.

When you feed it, it needs to be fed exclusively or else the other foods will dilute its nutrition and you will not see much if any difference.

This sounds like a load of crap from the manufacturer. Sorta like Jiffy Lube telling me that I need an oil change every 3K miles or the DeBeers Diamonds telling me how much I should spend on a diamond for an engagement ring.

Sure the 3K mile rule is something everyone knows but crack that owners manual and if the car was manufactured after 2000 more than likely it says to get an oil change every 5K miles. Who benefits from the 3K rule? Jiffy Lube. Sure it's good for the car too but it's not necessary. Who benefits from feeding fish exclusively NLS? NLS. Sure it's good for the fish but I think a varied diet is still better.

It might have high nutritional content but I am still a firm believer in feeding a varied diet and will continue to do so...

I have tried it both ways and the results are MUCH better with NLS exclusively. I am not blindly regurgitating information from their site, I am going by my experience (as well as the experience of many other people). If you read my article on it in my blog that explains my experience with it you will see this. I tried it as part of a mix and did not see a difference. Later I tried it again, this time exclusively the way the site says you get the best results. Sure enough it was MUCH better than when I just put it in the mix I used before.

They do not need variety, they need a complete and balanced diet. In the past this required variety to achieve. Now we have at least one company that has a food that does this by itself.
