A few points...

As long as you do your research and take care of your pc, it will not only be virus free, but it will go way faster than a mac. I have a PC laptop thats better than ANY mac laptop available and it's cheaper than the lowest priced mac.

Exactly. Unfortunately, not all of us have the time or interest necessary to learn the ins and outs of keeping a PC in good running order. I shouldn't have to know how to fix my car in order to use it, and apple conveniently takes care of these issues for me. From the fact that things cannot be installed on my computer without my personal password, to the awesome service department known as the genius bar, there is nothing I have to worry about on a daily basis. My last laptop was 2 years old when I stupidly dropped it and cracked the LCD. Other than that though, it was working just as well as the day I bought it. As for the specter of virus overrun macs somewhere in the future, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it, and something tells me that with the genius bar, I still won't have to worry about it.

Lol... This just occurred to me. One needs to be privy to a whole body of knowledge in order to properly use and maintain a PC, but mac users are the elitists. Funny how things work huh?

So, you're saying PC users are more intelligent...

But I think Macs users act like elitists to defend their purchase, since they paid triple for a PC, without any options for upgrades, besides the service packs that apple charges for.

As far as the hardware stuff goes....apple started off as a hardware company that started creating its own software. Microsoft is a software company that's getting in on the hardware market. It makes sense that apple is going to have slicker hardware. Microsoft just had the business sense to get set up with exclusivity deals on many hardware manufacturers so that they didn't have to worry about the hardware, they just wrote the code and someone else sold the machines.

Or do PC users act like elitists to defend their purchase, since they did not pay for the high quality mac but chose all sorts of senseless options and upgrades that they will never use, besides the constant OS releases that microsoft keeps producing and charging hundreds for every few years.

upgrade to snow leopard: 30.00
Upgrade to 7: 119-219

my 3 cents

I've used all 3 many times between networking, gaming, work, etc. etc. etc .etc

linux is amazing one of the best BY FAR..takes a little bit to get use to but once you do you'll never get off it

I use 3 computers now and they are

1. Acer Extensa 5620 2 gigs of ram with a modified xp running on it. Yep Acer! not alienware or dell or HP or ibuypower.com or whatever..freaking ACER the company from Hong Kong lol. Total cost out of the door 399 including a 4 year warranty by bestbuy. Funny but I've never had a single issue I run the entire adobe suite plus 3dmax, blender, terragen and multiple other 3d and 2d applications..I use NOD32 as my antivirus and again like someone mentioned earlier..defrag once a month and scan once a week. never had a virus never had an issue

2. Power Mac G4 Cube at my job which does a ton of video editing and compressing. I dont know the specs on it cause its not mine but it gets the job done

3. Homemade PC server station at the house..3 gigs of ram, slimmed down version of XP (my windows folder is 250 megs) is used to hold my music, games, and has 4 external hds hooked up to it which hold around 2.5 TB of "stuff". Runs back ups once a week..total cost of that pc was 50 dollars

While the mac is ok and does what its suppose to do for ME PERSONALLY I enjoy fine tuning and tweaking my pc. I love the fact that I can slim a fresh install of XP that is almost 2 gigs down to 125 megs and have it more stabler and quicker then then most. Im not truely fond of macs cause well to be honest..they bore me..they look like a really fancy shell with a snazzy visual effect.

They both have their pros/cons, there's no use in arguing. I currently use both. I have my $1600 pc i built for gaming and my imac for music, internet and photos.

No... Just that their soul crushing lack of social skills coupled with a complete lack of interest from the opposite sex leaves them a lot of free time to ____ around with their girlfriends *cough* i mean computers.
