I've said all along that the only purpose the present would serve is to confirm that you are an innocent. I've said whoever receives it, good or evil will probably not want to open it as it is too risky. What's so hard to understand about that??? That was never a question for me.
What I took exception to is the careless let's lynch her just in case attitude. If you wanna make a case against me do it and vote for me.

Cat, have you confirmed with rb what will happen if the present is opened... ie, if opened does rb just say 'a present was delivered and opened,' or does he say what actually happens to the opener? IMO there's a decent chance that if opened, the effects won't actually be known.
Also, I think that folks might be getting to hung up on the present at this point. While it will serve to bolster your claim, I can see it possibly playing into the evil's hands. You say in the quote above that if plant opens the gift, we just lynch her the next night.... I don't understand this.
If plant is scum, she's not going to open the present. If she's innocent, she's still unlikely to open the present.... but let's say she does, and gets turned evil, and then lynched the next night. It's not really 'no harm, no foul' for the town, as we technically lynched scum... we've really given the evil elves an extra night for killing someone while we play around with the gift.
Due to the chance for switching sides, I can't see anyone opening a gift at this point. Maybe as a last chance game-saver when things look absolutely hopeless, but not now, when it could be a game tipper.

When the recipient of a gift ackowledges they have it, I will announce in the thread that "a present has been delivered to XXXXXX"
2 hours before the next night fall....I will announce whether they chose to open it or not....
After nightfall, I will say to who and what the gift was, or the actions of the gift...

The lump of coal has to be delivered night 2 or 3 according to the rules. This coming nightfall is night 3 so there is no next night. If it's not delivered someone will be randomly chosen.
