Mafia 88: Insane Asylum (Game Thread)

Yeah sorry I wasn't here sooner.

(Still trying to figure wtf is a chupa-ca-something.)

Literal translation is "goat sucker". It's a mythical creature who drinks the blood of farm animals in rural CA and SA. So you're a vampire of goats.

Are you kidding? Your first post is a roll call as I see it. Why I ask? What's the need?

Roll call? Chup has added a lot more than you once they showed up. Why not comment on their observations?

How do you know that Narwhal is a girl? You are quick to point fingers at someone else claiming to know the gender of another, yet you do so. Why the double standard?
I jumped to a conclusion based on a cute little cartoon narwhal with hearts chosen as the avatar. I can't think of any guy I've played with that would choose a cutesy avatar such as that. Plus, if it's who I'm thinking they might be, they're most def female. I could be wrong though.

I would like to know how banter can be useful in finding scum. I would also like to know if this means low-poster = scum, so high-poster = innocent.
Never said that low poster = scum or high poster = innocent. Someone with no posts (aside from a "hi") is definitely not pro-town. And this format, with not knowing who is who, it will be very easy for scum to hide (i.e. we won't know if someone who is typically a high poster is laying low). Banter can be used later in the game to draw connections between people. At any time, scum can slip up if they're posting. If they're not posting then they cannot slip up.

[AC] BadHaggis;2588572 said:
Banter allows for people to judge what someone's opinion is of other player. It also allows people to slip up and accidentally reveal they are scum. And (yes, there's more), banter allows for evils to "build" cases, distance, and do all the other things evils do, which can then help the town if someone notices. Banter = Good for everyone. Not Talking = Good for scum. Posting amount means nothing, only quality. AKA, a ton of BS is useless, but the person has high post count. Not a lot of posts, but good info is given, but not a lot of posts.

Totally agree with this statement.

PS @ TH and his alias BEFORE POSTING BE SURE TO LOG INTO YOUR ALIAS!!!
Huh? I haven't seen anyone post under their real user name, so not sure why you're yelling at someone. Also, I'm sure there are people reading the thread who are not playing.

Ok, can we please get past the whole "Who's who?" thing?
I haven't seen anyone stuck on it. I have some ideas about who some people may be, but I could also be wrong. It's not going to change my play or evaluation of who is scum.

That's true. I just thought it was funny when I read old games where everyone voted for the third person to vote for someone the next day.

I was not aware we were hung up on it? Everyone is going to be curious, but I personally don't care who anyone is, only if they are scum.

Want me to be the third on Scoop, I don't have a dog in the hunt this early on. Which reminds me.

I retract my vote for old3toes.

That vote served its purpose I reckon.

I don't remember a time when the third vote mattered so much that everyone would vote that person the next day. It sometimes played a factor in the decision but it's not like people would vote that person solely because they placed a #3 vote.

Doomsday, I don't know what to make of your posts so far.

Yes, I will admit that the wood/would thing could be worth watching. So could bringing it up. Is bringing it up vote worthy? I don't know at this early stage of the game.

You act as if you know that TH is playing. Is he playing and in your scum den? Was your post to him a warning so he doesn't slip? I think this bears watching as well.

Agree, it does nothing for us. Though I didn't think it was really a issue yet?

Yes it is! Just make it extra large :)

Sorry for not being here, I do have a life you know.

Happy Day One everyone!
LOL, but you were one who tried it out I see :).

@Narwal: Ah, I see. This one. This is after you and Doomsday were talking about FF1, Fruit, and who was who. Meh, IDK why he would say that. Well, you answered my question, thanks! Doesn't seem all that important to me.
Someone else who seems to know the sex of another player....why makes you think Nem is a he?

Doomsday and Narwhal... be quiet.
I know this was asked a few times, if you already answered (sorry didn't see it) if you could please tell me why they needed to be quiet?

Perhaps we could get past the whole pronoun use thing too...don't see how it is at all productive to question someone referring to another as he or she. No one except the person being referred to knows if they are correct anyways so it can't really help or hurt anything. More likely than not people are using "he" because it's habit. Happens when new players join and people don't know their sex. People tend to just default to the masculine.

I tend to feel someone is male or female based on avatar, the way they post or whatever, but yes some tend to lean toward the masculine when unknown. Although, to say NO ONE knows the sex of other players is a bit off, as there are teams communicating and the "he" or "she" could very easily be a slip IMO.
