Mafia 94: When Gingers Attack; the play

I understand what you're saying. But when it gets so crazy and hectic like it often does, there are so many 'shady' posts that it's nearly impossible to pick out scum from the rest. Yes, more experienced mafia players will do a better job at staying low, but it's likely there is a new player on the scum team and they are more likely to post a lot and slip up. I just think it's funny that plantling wants a lot of commotion.

Okay, so...

1. With a lot of posting, it's hard to find scum because of that.

I do agree it's hard to catch on to them as it happens real-time. However, the beauty of this game is that the forum format becomes an unchanging archive that documents everything everyone says. Then as information is learned from voting records and nightfall results, we get to review who said what from the beginning. And THAT's when the scummy posts begin to stand out.

Pir, do you ever go back and re-read the game thread?

2. More experienced mafia players are better at laying low.

Actually, the opposite point is more significant. It's the inexperienced players who seem to think laying low is safer when they're scum, IMO. And that's often a good tip-off for us to look at them closer. More accomplished mafia players are very good at being evil and still post a LOT at the same time like they usually do... they even post aggressively and still not draw anyone's suspicion.

3. And again, you come back to the word, "commotion." I don't think Plant actually said that.

In all honesty, I didn't read over the player list. I see what you're saying.

I remember that.

How can you play a mafia game without knowing who's playing? Unless of course you know all you need to know, and that is who is evil and that everyone else is innocent.

I see what you're getting at, Razzle. But have you considered who you're directing this question to?

Honestly, it doesn't surprise me that Pir would make goofy statements without bothering to look at the list of players. I'm not sure Pir really gets how this game works most of the time.

Whenever I'm in game, you can be sure I've checked out who else is in the game. I imagine that's true for many others, too. I just don't find it difficult to believe that Pir would actually say some of the things he did and still be clueless about the players listed. That seems fairly consistent with his approach to the game.

This I wonder as well. I'd expect scum to blow over the player list, but that is not a very townie like thing to do.

^^ Cut that last part from a long-ish post.

Lab, do you really think this is a useful point that indicates scum or townie or even anti-town vs. pro-town leanings? I don't believe it is, actually.

Townies would examine the player list wondering which among us are evil. But the scum do this too... they look at it very closely because they're trying to figure out who our PRs might be.

...... They'd also consider the player list when deciding who they're going to hit.

Not to be mean but IMO, this "tactic" would be stoopid as it would draw added and unnecessary attention to a teammate. IME evils don't like drawing attention to themselves. There is always talk of the evils throwing a teammate under the bus to save themselves but I've never actually seen this. Only when all hope is lost do evils give up one of their own.

I can't remember which games we played together. I do remember JL as an evil lead the charge to lynch FireDancer, his scummate, to make himself look good. And in a later game after you were gone, Noodles was a snitch who had to include one teammate's name on a list. She filled the list with the entire scum team... by name... hoping to fake us out. (That proved to be unwise, as the town caught on in time to still kill them all.)

Rich, where did you get Pappy and miss me? It seems like you are skimming! The game thread isn't even that long yet and does not require skimming to get through it. As someone else said before, the scum don't have to pay such close attention to things this early in the game...

Not paying attention is just sloppy/lazy gameplay regardless on which side someone is on. That's more of an individual characteristic than it is role-based.

Um... someone else?

Who exactly was it who said that, Razz? Did you even remember who it was when you made this post? And do you consider them to be a sharp enough player that you would accept their comment and repeat it for us as though it were worthwhile advice?

That's it for now. Wish I could be here during the day tomorrow to see what else happens.

Player List:

Razzlefish

As it stands right now, I'm hard pressed to find a compelling suspect. Overall, I think a few people seem real suspicious for not making any effort to help us in the time they've been present (based on posts made).

I vote to genetically test Chill.

I think Chill has been the least helpful poster thus far. This is basically a gut call based on a real low signal-to-noise ratio from him.

When he's a townie, Chill is quite good at scum digging. But I have yet to see him even start doing this. He's given us lots of fun role play stuff, posted music videos, and tended bar. Thanks for all that, Chill... but I already have a great bartender so I won't be needing you for that.

I'd much rather have you helping us poke around for clues to find those without souls.

Thanks for the vote Kash. I'm sure you'll admit you're track record on me is really bad. Of course at least once that was on purpose but I'm not getting a scum vibe from you yet. So far all I have is gut reactions that could be ring rust.

I'll poke when I see something worth poking at that isn't all ready being prodded to death by everybody else. In the meantime I'll tend bar and post videos.

I blew it. I was making some observations and misremembered pap instead of you. Age is starting to get to me I guess.

By the way your avatar is killing me. That kid just keeps staring at me.
