Mafia Games....

Maybe you should call it Kashinator - attack of the Mod ;). Can we all be zombies on Day 2 and start again?

I've been looking forward to this game for quite a while, actually. (wicked chuckle)...

Really, though. I'm not going to mod-kill players unless they give a clear-cut reason to do so according to some fairly black and white rules. And there's not a lot of ambiguity there. Making a little mistake, like we all make... should be no big deal. Not unless it's really "stupid" and the other players don't call the player out for it on their own.

It's a very basic mafia vs. town theme with some inevitable goofs becoming fatal. Those are totally unpredictable so that's the only variable/random factor in this. Of course, if the mafia or townie PRs screw up by forgetting to hit someone or send in protection, the game is over.

Just in case the game does end abruptly with an entire side being wiped out all of a sudden... I love your phase 2 zombie idea. Same rules, same roles, same player list. Just re-run a new batch of random role assignments and give the whole thing a do-over. Ongoing conversation from the previous stage would naturally carry over so Day 1 of the second zombie phase would probably be funny. At least people would already have something to talk about on Day 1!
 
I read a game at another site which is where I got this theme idea from. Think I'll share an exchange from that. Gives you an idea how funny this game is.

Player 1 - Made a post where they mentioned only 2 mafia were left in the game.
Player 2 - Asked, "How do we know there are only 2 mafia?"
Player 3 - Saw Player 2's question and posted, "5..... 4...... 3..... 2...... 1....."

It was obvious in the game there could only be 2 mafia left. No other possibility existed. Thus, Player 2 had asked a stupid question and sure enough got mod killed for it.

The way player 3 immediately saw that coming and posted a countdown like that cracks me up!!!

Doesn't look like it appeals to our crowd. A few jokes and all but nothing enthusiastic. It does take a thick skin for that one knowing an ordinary goof could end your game but still not concerned about it if you're one who dies early. I think it's fun for everyone playing, not just the mod. That doesn't mean everyone else sees it that way.

There are a few other games on the list before we get to mine so there's plenty of time. I'll come up with another game idea instead.

Okay thanks. It's ready to go as is, whenever. Death scenes aren't anything for that so it's real simple and doesn't need any prep work. I'll keep it as an option. See what else I come up with just in case.

I think it sounds like good "joke" game...don't think it would last long like you said, but I'm sure everyone would have a good time especially when someone gets "Mod Killed".
 
I'm thinking of doing a time-limit style mafia game, but I want to know what people think about it before I put too much effort into figuring it out.

First, dump the spongebob crap lol. That was a dumb idea anyway.

Now, a time-limit game, is, well, a game with a solid time limit, a max number of nights. I'm thinking 5 nights max.

Here are the basic game mechanics:

1 Evil Person, the Killer - Can kill 5 people throughout the game, but not in the same "day" space of time.
1 Detective - This person can investigate 4 people at any time in the game. They will get invest when I see the PM. Cannot investigate 2 or more people in one "day" period.
1 Hitman - This person gets to kill a single person at any point in the game, the death will occur when I see the PM.
Confused Guests - They can just place a vote and have no idea what's going on.

Nightfall:

There is no nightfall, per say. In this game, the "day" ends when everyone has voted and I have seen their votes. At that point, I will call nightfall with the full vote count. Whoever has the majority of votes at that time, regardless of the time, will be the lynch.

All power roles can use one of their abilities between the beginning of the day and the end of the day. Since everyone needs to vote, everyone can also get their PM in to me as to who/what they want their power used on. If you vote and do not send a PM, I will assume you don't want to use your power.

The game ends when the Killer uses up all of their kills. Since they only get 5, that means 5 "nightfalls" are the max. After that, there is a final nightfall. This nightfall will also occur when I have gotten all the votes in, but no powers can be used.

If the town manages to get the Killer at any point in the game, they win. If the killer survives the game, they win.

So, what do you all think of that game mechanics?

I think it sounds like a good game FF. Not sure on the "numbers" side, I'm just not good at figuring out ratio's and end up asking a older Mod their opinion on things like that, but I do think it sounds fun.
