Mafia Games....

I'll just say I did not realize it was such a prevailing opinion within the overall group that it's this important to keep alias names secret after games ended. So that's good to find out.

Had it just been something that wasn't all that important to most other players either way, it would have been simple enough for us to just agree to disclose them for the most part as a matter of course. As I said, I don't actually know why the secrecy matters so much now when it didn't used to matter at all or when that change in perspective actually started.

I guess I'll withdraw the suggestion. Thanks for all the discussion on this.

Kash, I don't think it should be withdrawn, obviously something happened (no, I don't think you should have to reveal it) and it is something that should be addressed I agree with you on that fact. I also agree if this is happening it needs to be stopped, no player deserves to be attacked in a personal way at any time. Yes, things can get heated in the game at times, but things said are not truly personal; when it turns to someone taking advantage to purposely attack another player, something needs to be said and done about it, especially if it is coming from a person who only plays if they can be anonymous and use that towards a player who is here all the time (not that, that really makes a difference it should never happen). I understand your concern and agree it should be discussed.

Only 3 people have had a chance to respond...let others have a chance and we should go from there IMO.

I'm not against disclosing real names. In fact, I support it in most cases. I guess I just don't think that making a rule like this is going to stop abuse from happening. The only way IMO (keep in mind I work in this field in public service, so I may be seeing the thing all wrong for our context here), to do that is for a collective decision among the group that it isn't going to be tolerated.

But I also have to ask at what point we call things personal vs joking. If Zaffy says he's gonna hit me with a rock, and I take that as a joke, but I get offended by RB saying it... some of that problem rests with me.

I think, if I understand Kash's point; what happened was in three different instances with three different players and because they knew their names wouldn't be revealed after the game ended, they took advantage of that fact to "attack" a specific player...when if it was stated that names would be revealed in the end they would not of done that and it was meant to be personal. I just do not know how the person who attacked a specific player knew they were going after the right person if it was all alias names or how the intended "target" of attack knew who the alias was if it wasn't revealed?...but that doesn't really matter if they DID know and they DID take advantage of "hiding" behind a alias that is just plain wrong and shouldn't be allowed.

So, if the names were not revealed, how did the person offended, know they were being attacked by specific individuals? Did another player or game Mod reveal the alias so the conclusion is specific? Or is a player assuming an alias is so and so and taking it personal...lots of conclusions without much fact to back it up.

I think you're focusing on the wrong part of the story, RB.

Mafia games are like reality...what you perceive may be totally false. One individuals thoughts that alias are overall bad and they need to be revealed at games end, just sort of breathes vindiction needed from my point of view. Just like anything else on this forum...if you have an issue...contact a forum Mod.....if you truly feel the game Mod has not listened to a provable point, vice your opinion. Kind of hard to make a statement that a certain alias is definitely "Joe" and he is making abusing posts towards me. Just my thoughts....

Oh snap I agree with RB on something.

Aliases are always known by the Mod unless they throw out the PMs or paper they wrote it on (LG) so if it there is a problem the Mod could contact a real MOD and just ban the real name and the game Mod could punt the alias from the game. I'm against reveals unless they want to reveal on their own. Lets not turn this game into a nanny state.

Ask the game Mod...appears someone has been letting info out from what I read.....
