Major Problem:Got Ants!

Ok thanks guys, I think im going to use ant poison outside the tank. When i had ants a couple months ago i did the same thing and nothing happened to the geckos.Though they hadn't entered the terrarrium yet.I believe, once they notice the poison they go after that and avoid the terrarium all together and go back to the nest.

If you insist on using poison, be sure to use it as close to their entry-point into your home as you can... rather than right by the tank.

to undeniably keep them from coming in, you could put the entire terrarium in a dish of water until the problem is solved. ants NEVER cross water

I think you should really consider taking all the substrate out and buying new sand. Or if it's really cold out you can remove the geckos from your tank for the night and stick the aquarium outside so the freezing temperatures can kill the ants.

Sounds like you have too much crap(probably literally) in the substrate of your tank. Ants, crickets, and those bugs are thriving in your tank because they are finding lots of food. DO you have decaying plants, lots of feces, etc? What is your substrate?

That does sound like a plan.As for the substrate from the bottom up

gravel
eco earth
zoo med bark chips

Should i replace the layer of bark and add a new layer?I do have dead plants and i haven't changed the substrate sinc getting the geckos in july or so.LOL i wanted to redo the tank anyways.I guess this is the incentive.

Edit:Is there a reason behind using just sand?

Edit once more:The ants seem to mostly gone now.The poison has seem to done the trick unless they all went to the nest for the night lol
