Making a betta's life more interesting?

My Betta loves to see himself in a mirror! It stimulates him!

Super colorful pictures placed near the tank get mine to flare/build bubblenests. Changing up the decor also gets them to "patrol" and keep active.

Have you considered a floating blob of hornwort or java moss? Will a cana snack on that?

Live food is also great. Consider something like scuds or pond snails that can live in the tank and be "prey." If your betta is a shrimp eater you could go that route too.

I made sure to "play" with mine everyday. I'd move my finger around on the surface of the water and she'd try to catch it.

My canna doesn't particularly like moss or hornwort, but will readily eat it if available.

I always gave them silk plants, make it look like a natural stream?

Have you thought about trying some java fern... from what i have read on it that stuff tastes like crap lol.

My Betta has fake stump/root in the tank that he swims under and through the roots; it also has a large hole in the top which he goes into and he sleeps in there. He also has some corys, otos and ADFs in the tank to keep him entertained! LOL

He loves it when I come talk to him. :hearts:

Mine loves to patrol the tank and look at his reflection. I set up some rock caves on the bottom of his tank (if you want a natural look) just like you would for a bottom dweller, and he loves exploring them.

Just makes sure that anything you put in his tank has no sharp edges, and that all holes are plenty big enough for him to swim through without hurting himself. Bettas will squeeze through impossibly small holes (they're very curious) and tear their fins apart in the process.

My female liked to squeeze herself in between the glass and heater cable and in between a clay pot and the glass.
