Marineland c-220

Well I turned it off and on 3 times with a 30 sec pause in between. Still the same noise. Now I will do what Jim says and wait. I figure its a holiday weekend so I cant get a hold of anyone at marineland till tuesday anyways, and maybe it will have worked itself out. BTW i read on another sight that it may be the bio balls tinking? I doubt it sound like an impeller to me(and trust me the air is out! its been well shaken) but do you think it could be the bioballs?

DId my weekly maintenance. this morning. After a 50% water change(fighting a 1ppm ammonia level, trite and trates are 0 and 5 respectively) The cannister filter is still rattling but less...Man patience is hard to come by lol

I have a 360 on my 75 and it does a great job. I also had a bit of a rattle a couple of times after cleaning the filter so I put a dab of Vaseline on the impeller shaft and this helps a lot. I haven't heard it since and every time I clean the impeller I put a bit on it. I have also taken to doing this on my HOB Aqua clear filters and Eheim ecco's. Works like a charm.

I usually don't run carbon but recently added some manzanita to my 30 and the water got brown. I run a 220 and 360 on this tank . I ran some carbon and the water got crystal clear .
I liked it so much that I have carbon running in one of my FX5's on the 125 right now and the water is flippin clear as all get out :)

Yes , the carbon will do what you want , give it time .

UPDATE:Initial Assessment of the c-220(Strictly my opinion)For those who may be looking in to this cannister filter, please keep in mind the unit is a week old. I purchased this at pet supplies plus on sale for 127. From the start I found the set up to be quiet easy, and was very excited to get my cannister filter running. The main unit seems to be constructed very well. As far as the intake tube and output nozzle....HORRIBLE! I have better plastic on my power filter! I honestly was worried I could snap or crush the nozzles. I was hoping for a spray bar when I purchased this unit, but that was my fault I should have looked into it a little more.
Next my 2nd biggest gripe. the 2 pump prime....not so much. try 10x's (more on this later)
3rd gripe. The instructions. They just need to be more informative. I had a rubber grommet that goes on one of the trays that fell off that isn't even listed in the instructions. fortunately I was able to figure out where it came from.
4th gripe. Customer service. I waited 15 min to get an answer. When I did I mention my cannister filter and she actually said wow that is everyones problem today. Kinda makes you nervous on a product. I told her about the rattling in the impeller. She went over the basics as I knew she would. I told her yes i shook it. Yes Ive restarted it. yes ive checked the impeller. Yes i have the proper head height. I was basically told to give it a few days and if I wanted I could fax or email a copy of the receipt for a new impeller. Then I told her about the prime button and she said that I have to have the unit not plugged in and no water in the cannister. The instructions state to plug it in then prime it twice. So you decide what to do. I think what drives me the most nuts is I didnt even get a sorry for your troubles.
Finally. This is a brand new unit. I should not be hearing the impeller right out of the box. It makes me nervous on how long this unit will hold up. I know that many people use these units and say they are great. Im sure they are. maybe I am just being to picky.

The motor sounds as if it will be whisper quiet(assuming the impeller ever quit rattaling.) My water clarity still isnt as crystal clear as I had hoped. ( I do weekly water changes and I am OCD about keeping it clean) But I am beginning to see improvement.

I am not ready to give up on this filter yet. I hope that as far as water clarity goes I am just being impatient. The no bypass and 4 baskets idea seems as if it will work great. I love this part of the filter and was the biggest reason I bought it.As far as the wobbling impeller...maybe a fluke. The input and output nozzles...they need to be changed..that is ridiculous. I feel the prime button needs to be reworked also. The price is great and i certainly hope this filter wont completly let me down. For now I am on the fence.

Hope this helps anyone.

they are $112 bucks at www.kensfish.com

Can you show us a pic of how you have it installed?

Pictures of the tank. The tubing in the rear of the tank and then the tubes entering the cannister filter.

i just noticed it looks like my fish were just like stickied onto the aquarium...lol the look funny in the aquarium with that background

The customer service sounds pretty good to me. She went over all of the basics with you... Did you expect her to just know how far you had gotten, if you had assembled the filter correctly, or if you had started it up yet? I'm not sure what else you wanted her to do; she couldn't jut send you a new filter because you said you heard some noises

Right now, the best thing you can do is let everythig settle. Try adding some Vaseline like Bubbles said and see what happens
