I haven't seen reptile carpet in a tank in years! That being said, good lookin gecko! Are leopard geckos still the only reptile considered "domesticated?" I read that awhile back, but having been out of the reptile scene for awhile I don't know if any other critters have reached that mark yet.

Theres Bearded Dragons, the Leopard Geckos(many color morphs, mines a Hypo Tengerine Carrot Tail), Ball Pythons with lots of color morphs and so many more.

I switched her to sand and put slate where I have the UTH and put sand over it slightly. I might pick up some moss to keep her hide mosit to help her shed a bit easier.

From what I understand no reptiles species are considered "domesticated" as of yet. The traits being described are just changes in the coloring, not the personality of the animal or it's ability to survive without the help of human intervention. If you were to take a dozen leopard geckos of various morphs and drop them back into the wild they would mentally be able to feed and take care of themselves just like their wild ancestors. The only drawback would be their coloring and that would make them stand out more which would result in a large % of them being caught by predators.

Sounds good! A moist hide is very important especially if you are using sand which can stick to their toes. I use spagnum moss in my moist hides.

I have yet to get moss for her, I do mist her once a day till I can get her moss. I have major things I have to do, but I might be able to get the moss soon. I feed her 2-3 times a week, mostly mealies, sometimes crickets, wax worms and horn worms.

It's been awhile since I updated this thread. Turns out Grif is a he. Since I tore down my 20L a few weeks ago. I switched him over to it and fed him. I have yet to get a proper screen cover so I have the one from the 10 sitting on it for the heat lamp I have. He stayed away from the UTH after awhile and liked the light better. I use a 50W Moon Light on the tank which doesn't seem to bother him much. Currently the tank is on the floor, still have to get cube shelves in the corner where I'm keeping him. I'm post more pictures of him soon.

I'm curious about the coconut fiber (aka Eco Earth). I'm using it for my alligator lizards, but have wondered if it's safe for leopard geckos. The "reptile specialist" at work was adamant about using those carpet mat things, but I don't like the look of it. Haven't gotten a Leo yet because I'm looking for a sturdy stand to hold a tank. (I have cats, and one is a royal P.I.T.A. about getting into things he should leave alone.)

BTW, that's a cute Leo you have! I've seen some really interesting ones at work. We had one that was bright tangerine orange.

I wouldn't use coconut fiber for him, I do use moss for him, but stopped. He doesn't seem to like the moss. I use sand for my Leo and he's quite happy with it. I haven't used the carpet in over a year for him. I want to get a second leo, but I have to get a female or trade my big guy in for 2 smaller ones.. But that's mean.I like Grif to much to do that.
