Can you comment on the other part... PC's are better for soft corals while halides are better for hard corals. My LFS actually recommended that in a 90G (since it's not very tall) that I get a halide fixture one one side for hard corals and the leave the softies over on the other.

I want to keep the wood canopy. So, I'm guessing I move my PCs kinda toward the front of the tank and then put the halides toward the back. My tank is 4' wide... so it would probably be best to get the 48" of this:

IMO you would be more than fine with that, get the 14K bulb and let it shine,
 
i thought that i would need attinics when i got my 150 w Halide over my ten gallon but its completely unnecessary. I got the phoenix 14 k bulb and its unreal. My corals glow way more than they did when i had pc's. Plus if you add supplimental lighting to the halides you will lose the shimmer affect.
